[Leong23] High Speed Flash Photography

Hi all

Thanks for viewing.

The photo is actually inspired by Dr. Graeme Guy Humming Birds Shot recently in Costa Rica.
The setup is actually using Greg Downing's Humming bird setup.

Very simple setup, just using several flashes and dial down to low power and the duration of the flash will be your shutter speed.

For Greg Downing, he using 1/16 power and able to obtain a flash speed of 1/20,000sec.

For my case, i'm shooting in very close distance, around 1m away using my Nikon 200mm Macro lens. It allow me to use 1/64 power, the speed might reaches up to 1/60,000sec, which actually i don't need that fast.

Hopefully i'm free to shoot this week using slightly improved setup as the above photo is my first try in HSF Photography.

I saw one of those at henderson park.. and i thought i was a humming bird... >.< i was still telling my friends when i saw it that was the smallest humming bird I ever saw.. lol

so its an insect?

Yes, it is a insect, a type of Hawk Moth.

Yap, my setup is the same with them. This photography technique had been around for very long, it is most famous for shooting humming birds as it need the speed to freeze the wings.

I spend 3 hour waiting and shooting after setting up and had to pack up due to storm.

Sometime even if they choose that particular flower, but their flight approach is not desired, the result will not be good.

Hope to take more also, but was there yesterday and waited for 7 hours, end up going back with no shots.

Hopefully my luck will be better, will be back to the place and set up my gear 4 hours later.
