Eh u said u bought your 450D at BD but u didnt get the kit? Bro, the 17-85mm if bought first hand is abt $800. If u had bought it as kit, it'll cost much lesser.

The camera I bought is body together with EF-S 18 - 55mm. But I'm planning to have a brother of that lens. And planning to buy a dry box too, a cheap one possible.

might want to hold your horses and wait for the recently announced EFS 18-200 f/3.5-5.6IS. it's likely to be in the $1000 range though, but will perform all the functions (wide, tele) reasonably well.

A superzoom (10x or better zoom range) is a decent alternative if you don't want to carry around too many lenses (holiday, street, etc), but there are compromises in the image quality.

sigma 18-200, tamron 18-250 and 18-270 are all viable 3rd-party alternatives in the $800 range (IIRC), but you can get them cheaper used.

i started with a superzoom myself to help me find out which are my favourite ranges.

Hi, I managed to shoot a few pictures using the 18-200 IS lens on the canon 50D. Like all 18-200 mm lens ( I also have the similar lens for Olympus (18-180mm) and for Nikon; used to have the sigma 18-200mm OS lens as well), the performance is i) slow compared to f/2.8 lens. For a modelling catwalk, too slow. Image clarity not as good as the 70-200mm lens, or the 135 f/2.0 lens.

For those thinking of 18-200mm lens, be aware that this is a general purpose lens, not a high performance (fast, sharp) lens.

See list of Lenses recommended by others as well.

I just wanna find out for the EFS 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, Or at least for the wide-angle lens. Where can I find the cheapest. I'm saving to buy one. Does anyone have any source.?

bro. you are comparing a major telephoto lens with two of Canon's well known powerhouses for image sharpness, namely the 70-200 and the 135 f2 haha. Maybe you might want to compare to something more along it's class? like the other kit lenses like 18-55, 55-250 or 17-85?
