I've been hanging in this forum for quite some time now and have learned from a lot of knowledgeable and experienced DSLR users here. But sad to say you're not one of them. It's very obvious you're just a pure beginner and you keep on saying non-sense, that's why photography gurus are pissed at you. Stop playing genius here coz you're just confusing people who wants to learn the art of photography.
No one is playing genius....besides, i don't wish to say anything much henceforth.

your style of photography may allow for you to have the time to AF slowly or MF even. We can accept that. For portraiture and landscape shooting you tend to have all the time in the world.

We ask you to understand that for some photographers who are paid to cover an event, missing the shots IS a life or death situation. Professional obligation and reputation and all that. So for these type of shooters AF speed is a critical consideration when selecting equipment. As Headshotz mentioned, the slow AF of the 55-250 does hinder him when he's shooting events.

In photography, style is everything. there is no 'wrong' answer, but you seem to be reacting as if yours were the only right solution. The forum exists for us to exchange opinions and points of view, not for us to shoot down others' viewpoints. We can agree to disagree, but try to do it in a friendly manner.

From CS i have learnt many things by just reading and respecting other people's ideas and opinions. I may not agree with everything said, but I respect the right of the poster to that opinion.

At the end of the day it is TS who is buying the lens. IIRC he wanted opinion on a UWA and tele lens, and the options have surfaced:

UWA:
Sigma 10-20
Canon 10-22

Tele:
Canon 55-250
Canon 70-200

Maybe we can refocus the discussion on the relative strengths and weaknesses of these lenses?
the 17-55 f2.8 is left out. AGAIN.

hahaha.

Um...

the threastarter is not looking at a general purpose lens to replace his kit lens - he is looking at expanding into the UWA and telephoto ranges.

ooooooooo..

then Canon EF-S 10-22mm would be a good choice. :)

vignetting's on the heavy side though, but nothing photoshop can't fix haha. Hey TS, if you need some good info on the choice of lenses, do check out this site..

www.the-digital-picture.com

it has great reviews on all lenses Canon. Enjoy!

Hey thanks very much to all bros and sisters who have contributed your expert advices and professional views to this newbie here... considering $ and all other factors I will most probably settle for 55-250mm and 10-22mm for wide angle lens... (m not aspiring to be a pro, jus taking photography as a hobby and wana enjoy taking simple nice decent photos, at least for now.. :D)

but just wondering if i shld still buy then when i m in japan? can bros/sis here advice this newbie here what & where wd be a good buy in sg?

Oh yes, btw... i usu take night shots, and reading here in the forum, speedlite 430EX seemed to be a gd choice for starters.. but can i know if there's any website that i can learn on hw to use flashes correctly? and do i need a diffuser really? pls pardon my ignorance asking silly questions :)

Thanks a million for your time and effort in this.... and have a great week ahead!! :)

Hi bros/sis
I might be deciding to get a EFS 55-250mm IS but realised that its without a USM. hmm..i know its a ultra sonic motor, (current kit lens hv usm) can someone advise me what impact will i hv if the lens is without a USM? pardon my ignorance here. tks again for yr kind advice! :)

focus speed will be slower than with USM. if you like quick (and silent) focus, this may be a problem for you.

what lens are you currently using that has USM? 17-85 f4-5.6?

hi hi..does it focus in the same way as the kit lens?

I am using a 450D and thinking of getting either 17-85mm or 28-135mm 2nd hand. Price wise both are the same.

So which wise is better in term of output and price?
thanks

depends if you prefer to shoot wide or tele. with your current kit lens, what are your shooting styles? where are the zoom lengths usually?

28mm may not be sufficient for 450D if you like scenery and group shots

i am using into more scenery. right now I am using 18-55mm...so it would be better to get 55-250mm right?

thanks..

depends if you're looking to complement your lens (55-250) or replace it (17-85).

the lenses you mentioned 17-85, 28-135, 55-250 have completely different characteristics and purposes.

for landscape, you'll want a wide lens, at least 18, if not 10-22

Hey guys, I'm a newbie too of DSLR. I just bought my eos 450d @ BD.

**For skygazer rite, for what I saw the price of the lenses in Singapore are much expansive than, if you want to choose lenses like wide-angle and telephoto. At least the price you can get is up to around $600+.

But if you can find 2nd hand one, than its much cheaper lar.:dunno:

Hey, Im trying to buy a bag too, try lowerpro, they have a lot of cool designs.

But I'm trying to buy a dry box that is cheap, where can I buy a cheap dry box?:dunno:

I am using the 28-135mm as a walkabout lens. For scenery or buildings we will need a wider one and I am reading/checking/figuring which one to get.
You can check out MS on 17-85 and 28-135 prices which would have dropped again recently.
