http://shashinki.com/blog/2008/03/04/tamron-sp-17-50mm-f28-a16n-ii-short-review/

According to one of the post, Tamron has 2 production plants, Japan & China. Lens from China are having bad QC, and most of them are having AF problem.

Not sure how true it is, but just some info to share with you guys here.

I'm planning to buy Tamron 17-50mm. But the Tithes closing down rumours holding me back. eerrrrr........

Any idea who is doing the lens servicing for Tamron now?

I emailed to Tamron JP to check on this.
They advised to confirm on local warranty, keep the warranty & receipt.

What I heard is, they are going to change to another distributor.

Plan to buy Tamron A20 since there is no new distributor then have to look around for another brand. Any recommendation? I am using Canon EOS 450D.:dunno:

nice.. and thanks
did they say how long it will take to change hands?

You got it from John 3:16, right?

When I went down to try the 28-300VC this Tues, they said that Tithes is still maintaining the dealership, just changing name... They said they'll sort out the mess with Tamron after they make the name-change. Something which I'm very skeptical about...

It's precisely this reason why I'm holding off getting the 28-300VC for now...

If just name-change, the people still the same.
Service still the same, then no point getting this brand, it might have same old problems again.... Change soup don't change herbs, useless.... :thumbsd:

Risky to send items for servicing, cause a forumer still can't contact them, hope he/she may get his lens back....

Any other shop does lens calibration?

Thanks.

Anyone got updates on tamron support? Planning to get that 70-200 F2.8 if there is a change in the service centre, if not will get the canon version 1.

As above, anyone knows any news about the status of tamron service / support here yet? I'm about to get one but if we're going to be left in limbo for the next 5 years I'd rather play it safe and get (an overpriced) canon.

Yesterday I went to John 3:16 and heard rumour that Shiro may take over distributorship of Tamron. Hope its true, as lens prices may come down.

ahh i see an email address there
thanks
