Lens recommendation to replace kit lens.

hi TS,

if you want a good kit lens replacement but longer reach I think 18250 is one of them it's a decent lens tha can produce decent shots, if you want a much better image quality its hard to find a all in one lens that is capable of having great IQ... I am seeing 18250 selling now as low as 400SGD in buy and sell section I would suggest go try it out see if you like the IQ. Else two lens or 3 lens solution still the best =)

I think TS may not be impressed with 18250mm......

Yeah, i really camp at BnS everyday and was looking for some good price minolta lens and prime lenses as well.

Yeah. It takes time to get a good lens.

I took a long time also. Not instant noodles 2 mins, can eat already

Not every Minolta model is good. Always read from reviews and threads here. U will roughly know.

For prime, u can get Minolta 50mm 1.7, equal or even better than Sony 50mm

If u got abit more budget, get Sony 35mm 1.8

I think TS may not be impressed with 18250mm......

i had 18250 when i bought my A33 and it only stay with me for a week =( I was then newly converted Alpha coming from Olympus using E620 with Zuiko HG Lens 14-54 i was pampered with zuiko lens sharpness so when I used the 18250 was not 100% impressed but I am not saying it's a bad lens =)

For me I think 2 or 3 lens solution is stil the best when it comes to IQ...

ill strongly recommand TS to consider this.. if its 400+-SGD. its within your $500 budget. Used it until you have the budget to upgrade..if not stick with it since its a all round general purpose lens.. wont go wrong with it.
Hmm, yeah i know that i will never go wrong with it, but when come to IQ , i read a lot of review complaining about it.

For prime, i saw 2 lens in BnS section, minolta 28mm f2.8 and sony 28mm f2.8(still under warranty.)

To me, IQ is more important, maybe i shall try out the lens someday at Sony style.

yeah suggest you try out some lenses before buying one =) and also I would suggest you getting two lens solution or even 3 lens solution and get a good lens.

example not so epenssive setup but good IQ would be

17-50 Tamron f2.8
70-210 f4 (beercan)

if you want longer ons can consider 75-300 f4-f5.6 (aka Big Beer Can) i find this big beer can better than the SAL75-300 although the big beercan is heavier and longer

But you may exceed a little bit from your budget of 500 =)

Cz 24-70.
Cz 16-35
70-200g

:D

I dont understand.. people complaint n pick on IQ.. But come on..How much are you offering? Many times.. IQ come with a price..
Post processing helps too. provided if you are good with it. (Not much on IQ but overall of the picture..)

I dont really do PP too lazy and dont have time lolz so all of my pix the most I do was raw to jpeg and correction of WB =) comparing IQ of 18-250 with shorter lens like Tamron 1750 you can really see the difference specially when using to take landscape 18250 lens is not bad lens I have it and manage to get good pix =)

No horse run ! woo. my choice would be 24-70Z. 70 400G then 16-35Z.

yeah me too =)

must buy toto and hope to strike atleast 2nd price so I could buy all these lens

Not that hard actually.. just need some discipline and the willingness to purchase. Save $200 every month. Can get 1 every year. if not. 2 years.
Instead of spending money buying TOTO 4D hoping for some luck.. I guess its better to save up that little bit (depends on individual, some bet alot) everytime.. in a long run they can become alot if you think about it. Getting bit OT already..

But TS...im just saying... Pls dont ask for so much when you are only offering so much. Compromise. Buy it. Use it. Its actually not that bad!! If you going to be so picky.. you will never be satisfy or maybe you will never even make a choice at all.

Well..it comes with a price dosent it. the 17 50 is out of TS budget unless he decided to increase? Then from what i remembered TS want something that goes up to 100mm. So..1750 is out too.

yeah true his best bet with is current budget is the 18250 which in BnS is selling within his budget =) or if he dont mind he could hunt for Minolta 24-105 or the 28-135 if he wants one of the outing I will bring my 28-135 see if he likes the field of view of 28mm =) this lens I think is within his budget also

or wait and look for 16-105 (BnS now roughly 550-600) this lens is also nice can cover most of your needs from wide to tele unless TS wants to do some birding =)

TS.. i suggest u save up abit more and then get ur dream lens.. IMO 16-80mm/17-70mm/16-105mm is nice focal length

for the time being.. zoom with ur legs.. LOL

this setup for those rich ppl :P

Its for people who dont want to complain later o_O

i dont really like those type of super long. i only want the focal length to fall in between 16-120
why not consider the 16-105 if you not already have this lens.

thinking of getting a budget prime .. what do u guys recommend? Used Minolta 50mm f1.7 vs Sony 50mm f1.8
