I used my 18-55mm kit lens on my first DSLR that is the D5000 for 2 years before i started to venture further
A host of reviews and many forums dismiss kit lens as plastic and poor IQ but it still produced very good photos for me.
It was until i realized that i shoot a lot of landscapes at FF 28mm and 35mm that i got the 24mm f/1.4G (Back then equilvalent to 35mm DX) on the D5000. When i mean a lot i meant that a few thousand photos taken on the D5000 with the focal range 18mm to 24mm on the 18-55mm DX during my travels and at times 18mm wasnt even wide enough for me so had to improvise and stitch.
Knowing that, then i decided what lens to buy while also taking into account that i planned to get a FF body the months to come.
So, suggest that you stick to your 18-105mm kit lens and find out what is your limiting factor in terms of composition before your next purchase.
