Lens for Far and clear shots

I'm a bit confused here. For the F1 night race, some are recommending that the DAL 55-300 can do, but some are saying need faster aperture.
Will the DAL 55-300 be able to:
(1) sufficient blur out the fence (or is that more a question of physically standing closer to the fence?
(2) take a properly exposed picture in the available light?
For (2), here's the info I uncovered so far about the available light:
- the track is lighted at 3,000lux
- here is a comparison of various situations from Wikipedia: 320500 lux office lighting, 400 lux Sunrise or sunset on a clear day, 1,000 lux overcast day/typical TV studio lighting, 10,00025,000 lux full daylight (not direct sun).
So if 3,000lux is like maybe a slightly cloudy day, the 55-300 should be OK, right?

I've a friend who shot with a Sigma 70-300, so it should be ok.
From the pics I've seen so far posted in the Sport/Events subforum, I'm not very convinced that the fence is 'erasable'
even with far better lenses (whatever brand). I might be wrong on this because its based on some peeps here and there of the posted pictures, so you better check out the threads yourself.
A better seat could also make a difference. I still suggest you check out the specific threads from last year to know where to position yourself. (Maybe paying for a $$$ ticket might end up to be better than whatever a $$$$$$ wonder lens can do )

hmmm for me, I wanna take like during celebrity autograph sessions then wanna use it cause my kit lens unable to zoom. Regret didn't get the dual lens kit so now wanna get one
btw what's the diff between dal 50-200mm and Wr 50-200mm? I know wr means weather resistant but besides that nth else? Then why the price diff quite alot?

The extra cost is for:
- weather seals
- metal lens mount
- lens hood
- quick shift function (ie you can turn the focus ring while the lens switch is still in the AR position).
I dunno whether overall build quality better than the DAL or not. That you have to check with those who have handled both.

I think the F*300 is good. Barrel almost made entirely of metal. <:

Depending on the magnification of the telescope eyepiece fitted, it will have no problems focusing on subjects a couple of hundred meters away.

SGP F1 is very brightly lit ... there won't be problems with exposure ... tamron/sigma 70-300, pentax 55-300 can do the job if you not fussy.
those f2.8 lenses will not just let you have faster shutter but they also have better optics ... all add up to sharper / better IQ.
but they also come with very different price tag. :sticktong
last year i went but i couldn't find a spot where you won't get block by fence ... irritating coz the camera keep on trying to focus on the fence. :dunno:

Went to see F1 race last year w/ Ben. To be honest, Singapore F1 isn't great for taking photos unless you have a VIP seat w/ great location. Most time you'd be seeing the race like this:
Your view is not only blocked by the fence, but also by people infront of you, unless you get there 5hr before the race starts (so you can have a better spot).
At such close distance, you don't really need a very long lens, and probably you don't need AF either 'cause the fence might make the camera confused about where to focus.
I used DA*50-135 for the entire 3 hours, manual focuse only, but most time I wasn't shooting but looking, listening, and enjoying the race. Since your view would most likely be blocked by the fence, you'd better try some pan-shooting. It's not so easy 'cause most time the speed is above 200 or 300 km/h. But after some try, you sure can snap some good ones.
Here are a few of what I got there (took these w/ my legs fully extended, heels lifted, camera raised in the air, used live-view to compose, because I was too short to look at viewfinder w/o being blocked by guys in front of me) :

The 80-200 is also more than 1.4k. I believe its closer to $2400.

I did take some from last year race, but if you are in the stand, a zoom lens would be better i think. My shots are so so so poor to yours. And also always shoot during practice session, there will be lesser people. During race day, enjoy it man.
Best is they are coming out from the corners, which their speed would slow down, and u got to anticipate when they are coming. (the engine sounds is loud enough to tell u )

Got those seating at the Pit stop entry, It's a good point to see the race but it lacks of an big LCD screen (cant see their position or news of other activities at other part of the circuit). I bought it online from HWZ, think it's some free tickets for suppliers or other reason, that's why lack of the SCREEN!
To take the pictures is tiring, got to move to top of the stands, so that to avoid those fences. Then got to balance as i had to stand on the seat railings to take. Only can take during practice session as those seats are not fill up at all. There's alot of phototakers taking from there too, think their picture would look better than mine :sticktong .
