I'm not a Leica owner but i'm wondering if anyone would go for a X1, D-lux 5 or the highly-anticipated Fujifilm Finepix X100? Not trying to start anything... pure curiosity

Hi everyone.
I'm currently an owner of the 550D and have been thinking to jump over to Leica. I usually shoot streets and holidays. May I ask how does the X1's IQ compare to Leica? I want a M9 but will wait a few years to justify that. I am also wondering if the X1 could last me till I get the M9?
If I decide to jump, which store do I go to get the X1? The official store at Raffles Hotel?

i just gotten my x1 today at the cathay store at peninsular plaza. u can try calling around the authorized dealers in SG i think far east plaze mega foto also have x1. btw i also noob in x1 could u guys teach me a skill or 2? thanksssssssss :heart:
Been checking out the X1 in HongKong where I am currently on holiday. Black ones are very rare, yet to see one. One shop told me they had stock but it was one of those shops near Nathan Road.
The Leica shop in Times Square does not have stock. Was asked to go to IFC to check it out. Other shops here won't even take it out to show u. Price here generally above 16k. A limited edition one was asking 68k...
So no luck yet, prices at Tin Cheung no better. Service at camera shops here pretty poor.
Will look in Mong kok another day. A D700 body is even cheaper...
For those who have bought, I have 2 questions.
1) how is the focus speed?
2) how is the screen for viewing and framing shots? My old eyes need help

I just got my first Leica this evening from Leica Store @ Raffle Hotel :heart::heart:. And it is a X1 in Black. Very nice leatherette feel compared to steel grey :lovegrin:. The hunt is on now for related accessories :devil:. Looking at

the X1 viewfinder is like $450 if I recall... case is almost $200
thxs for the info...seem like its more x compare to the previous version that i bought few months ago.
Was at IFC in Hong Kong where they have a X1 that can be tested inside the shop. This is unlike most of the of the shops here in Hong Kong where all they do is quote the price and don't offer to show you the camera.
The focus is not as slow as I imagined - it seems to focus at a reasonable speed and should be good enough for my use. In dark and low contrast areas yes it does struggle, but I don't think that will form the bulk of the shots I require.
I also tried a D700 (about the same price without lens) with the new 16-35f4 which is a very nice combo. Love the VF and feel of the SLR. Unfortunately with that lens it would bring the camera into the 1.7kg+ weight category, and as compared to the 285g Leica X1, i might end up leaving the powerful and versatile beast at home. So in the end while it can in theory offer me more choices and much better framing, it may end up missing some shots where I can easily bring the X1 in my bag without a moment's hesitation.
Neither of the 2 colours is available through the Leica shops here, both are not in stock. Priced at$16,500 if i recall correctly or maybe $16,700 there is negligible difference in price as compared with Singapore after the conversion.
Some street shots are also calling the same price, some even more. When I ask, some claim to have a 'black' one too though I have yet to actually see one here.
Looks like I won't be able to get one in HK at a good deal which is disappointing. Pity!

I am new on this forum (well I've been reading it for few months).
I was an X1 owner until few days ago. The X1 got me into Leica and the unavoidable happened : I traded it in on a mint M8.2. But had to let it go with a sad feeling because I loved the X1. It did everything for me, including making me excited about rangefinders.
Really sad is the fact that I was on a trip to Europe last week and had ordered a beautifull Luigi case for the X1 and got it delivered during my trip (his cases are hard to get). NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO USE IT :cry:

Hi,
As you can read in my post I have a brandnew Luigi case with deluxe strap for sale. Never used it and it is brandnew !! It looks absolutely gorgeous on the X! (Natural aged brown colour) and protects for X1 against bumps to keep it beautifull.
