Leica 50mm f/1.0 Noctilux

We know this, and this was the ex-CEO's pet project. It may happen and it may not happen. If too well corrected like the ASPH, then it would be sharp and not a signature lens.

If asph, then I think it will lose its Noctilux look. Gommy told me it's a limited edition too.

The rumoured 0.95 Noctilux will be an ASPH lens and expected to be priced at US$10k! The current Noctilux has a special glass element that is very difficult and expensive to manufacture. I read somewhere this element alone costs as much as all the other elements in the Noctilux. When Mandler designed this current Noctilux, he opted for this exotic glass and not to use aspherical elements. The original f1.2 Noctilux has 2 aspherical elements and is now pretty much a collector's lens.

If you have the 'Noctilust', better get one now. I expect the price of used Noctilux will go up. I got mine in very mint condition a few years ago. If the price keeps going up, I might sell it to finance the purchase of the R10!.

I was told go Japan has plenty. Go to shop & get to choose some more but of course not new ones-second hand. Someone just bought 2 Nocts two month ago in Tokyo. For the price of a new one, you can fly to Tokyo can buy one second hand, I think.:bsmilie:

by the way, how many noctilux f/1.0 versions are there? I saw some on ebay but they are physically different....or so what it seems...

Optically, same except for f1.2.
f1.0 ver1 (s/n no up to 2919656) use hood 12519 & E58 filter
f1.0 ver2 (s/n from 2919656 to 3220708) use hood 12539 & E60 filter
f1.0 ver3 (s/n from 3220708) same as ver2 except use different hood 12544
f1.0 ver4 (last version) with build-in telescoptic hood
