for a person who doesn't know how to properly separate this sentence into phrases, he will have problem understanding and evening looking up the dictionary! should he check up the word 关心 or 心与 ??

if the words are spaced out, think u can read it easier 需要 您 的 关心 与 代祷 . i think this separated with spaces, people not familiar with chinese can easier lookup the dictionary.

I don't get it, you try to reinvent Chinese language or what? People have using this for few thousand year and billion of people are using it. No one complain it.

I think you have problem with this is more likely you have problem with the vocabulary or you have problem it the culture.

dunno why leh, i can read the 2nd sentence much faster than the first. tho my voca contains all the words i know. no new unfamiliar word.

btw, 需要您的关心 is fairly easy to understand at primary school level Chinese, or even younger. 代祷 is a term not found in normal Chinese dictionary. though it is not a pronunciative translation, it is a strictly Christian term. in East Asian culture it's more like 为他人祈福 in meaning.

if you read the second sentence much faster than the first, it means that you need alot alot alot alot more practise.

the 2nd sentence is all 'chopped up,' it's quite a pain to read Chinese written like that, i feel constipated reading it

It seem more likely Chinese is your second language, therefore you need to translate it into English before you can process them.

Bear in mind that Chinese language is a language that require extensive memorization. It train you until when you look at it you will automatically know it is a phrase.

see, your entire sentence is one chunk without spacebar, i have to mentally separate them into "??" , "??", ... hee

if i not familiar with the words, i may separate like this ? - ?? - "??" - "??" - "??" which totally meaningless

In mainstream Chinese, the reason that we doesn't have space is due to the fact that singular words itself is meaningless.

The meaning is derived from a string of words and ideas, concepts and others meaningful information are derived from the deeper structure of the sentence as compared to, say, English.

Thus, learning these 3 languages: Chinese, Japanese & Korean, involves not only in just memorising and reguritating plain words and getting the contextual meaning but it also involves knowing the deep structure of a sentence, the force behind the statement.

Perhaps that's why, unconsciously, many find it difficult to learn Chinese.

Anyway, where the Chinese Bible is concerned, I don't recall spaces in between words. And dun accuse me of not having seen a Chinese Bible before. I personally own one, along with an English edition of Good News Bible.

eh, don't blur yourself leh, that's a vocabulary problem, you go tell a Chinese teacher Chinese is difficult to learn because of the lack of spacing that teacher will either roll on the floor laugh till dead or pull out all the hair.

Unfortunately that's just an excuse for bad or zero knowledge of their own mother tongue. :bsmilie:

Unless one is looking at a situation where additional stress is required on certain words thus spacing becomes a priority. If not, knowing which words are supposed to be together is supposed to be a no-brainer, even to my 6yr old niece.

Most of the time, meanings in the original language are being lost in translation.

Case in point: Japlish (or Japanese-English) or Chinlish (Chinese-English).
