Pentax do not have weather sealed lens at this moment. Their new DA* series supersonic lens will have.:D

Hi gents,

Is the K10D available in SG yet?

Anyone can advise me which shop i should go to for Pentax DSLRs?

Thanks,
Eric

The K10D has only been announced. Its currently undergoing pre-production so there is none in the wild yet. LIkely it will appear overseas before it reaches Singapore a few months after that..this is the case for the K100D

I'm a newbie to photography and am pretty interested in getting a dSLR. Been looking around at Nikon, Olympus and Canon cameras. I stumbled on Pentax while reading the General Review column. Is Pentax that good? Have not heard much regarding its publicity as a professional photography provider. Any advices?

Are you a pro or planning to be one, especially for fast action like sports and fashion shootings? If not, Pentax should be good enough. As a matter of fact, any SLR digital camera should be more than enough. It's the lenses that you should consider. Currently Pentax only have quite amount DA lenses and eaily available in some local stores, but nothing beyond 200mm (except some old FA/FAJ lenses). For streets, landscapes or macros, they are good enough.

Of course here in SG, C/N lenses are more available and easier to get. Just keep this in mind when you plan to get your first dSLR camera :)

Good luck,

Yup! You speak my mind. I'm worried if i start as Pentax user, i might have difficulties in getting the lenses. Since i'll be getting my first dslr, i'm actually thinking of K100D is suffice. Actually, the anti dust is quite important, as I planned for a backpacking trip in tibet next year. Well, thats one the main reason i'm jumping to dSLR world.

Actually, i'm considering the O's E400 too. Given its light weight and portability. Excellent for travellers like me. I hate the thoughts of bringing bulky lense and equipments for shots. Pentax seems to offer quite nice pancake lenses too.

There are just so many N and C users out there. I'm worried about the support system in our local shore.

It's really quite difficult to get the lenses for Pentax ................:(

Maybe first timers who are interested in the Pentax system should go
walk around, do some homework and find out the sources of where you can get
good lenses and accessories before buying the body. Check out the prices too.
This will save you a lots of frustration of not able to get the item you want later.
Check this out.

Last time i buy from Ebay, if not, TK Photo (James) & MS Color (Florence) they willing to order...

But, Pentax's presence is like quite peanuts in Singapore. I only seen Pentax user once. And thats the only time....

If we were to order from oversea, wont the lense be much more expensive as compared to its counterparts?

hi there, i'm a DS user [got it back in early '05] - with an Sg1 grip, and am looking forward to the K10D! i was thinking of jumping ship to nikon but i have a lot of pentax glass [all old film aside from the kit lens] already and the K10D looks high specc'd enough to stick with, though i would prefer: larger buffer for RAW, pc link and iso3200 [has been very useful] etc ].

They seem to be pitching this against the D200, which seems to have a good pro reputation, so i do wonder how they will fair, as they do not have the bulk that nikon and canon have behind them, but they do have a good heritage/history behind them.

*watches with interest*

as for lenses [aside from kit supplied ones - i have old 35mm pentax slr], i got some cheap sigma's from- probably - funan [so many years ago], whereas my other glass is from ebay.

pentax-M 50/1.7 was about us$25 shipping within uk [superbly sharp glass].

btw, SG1 grip doesnt add much but its nice to have. ~ other togs have a tendancy to 'double-take' when they see a bulky pentax-wielding [part-time] press tog.
:D

Yea...This camera is worth waiting for...but well, I dont get invited to Pentax launches...So wont know when the camera is arriving...but am still excited to test the camera...Maybe we can form a mini Pentax Professional support group to share and guide new photographers...a Place to gather like- minded Pentax users? :)

Let's hope the Pentax distributor here can give us assistance on this? :)

However, Pentax user base seems quite low in Singapore. Plus, some even mentioned about the difficulties in obtaining the lenses. Let alone selling them for upgrades. Will it hinder potential Pentax users to jump ship into Pentax world?

Since Pentax lenses are not commonly found in our shore, will the prices of lenses be as competitive with the O N C?

That's pretty good prices, thanks for the info. I don't use flash that often, otherwise I might get the 540 flash :)

Hi Guys, what do think of these 3 Pentax lenses? :D

SMC AF 28-80mm f3.5-4.7 Power Zoom
SMC AF 35-135mm f3.5-4.5
SMC AF 80-320mm f4.5-5.6

the pentax FA 80-320mm is a decent comsumer lens, best among the pentax 300 mm zoom range i think. Can get fairly sharp photos if light is good. Actually it is quite sharp up to about 220-250mm. At longer focal length it is soft but still useable. Auto Focus is poor, hunts a bit sometimes. Overall, great lens for its price. :)

:dunno: about the other two.
