i guess film still do better in handling shadow and highlight..

Strange as it sounds - for human beings, better is not always better.

The audio CD is capable of higher fidelity reproduction than vinyls, but vinyls carry their own distortions that are actually pleasing to the human ears. Or at least those ears that have been conditioned to the kind of distortion.

Leica lens are loved for their distinct look, but that distinct look is a result of under-corrected aberrations.

Movie films are more pleasing to watch, though they are never as sharp or as crisp as the digital movies.

Film photography is a total experience from the way you shoot, to how the films are developed, printed, and how the end result look. So the merits cannot be judged solely by objective measures. It does better on some grounds, and far less on others. For god sake - b/w photographs don't even have colors on them! :-)

Whatever it is, when it comes to what your heart desires, you've got to follow the heart :-)

Agree with losheng,

when I decided to start photography in march this year; brought a SLR simply because it was the cheapest way to make images

Who knows, after afew rolls I'm hooked. The entire process is a very zen experience, walking around taking pictures.

Borrowed a DSLR from a classmate for afew days but got bored soon after. There is something about the look of the images, the slight under/over exposure due to guessing

Or maybe because you were more involved in the picture taking process compared to just pressing the shutter on a dslr

I feel its wrong to judge a medium based on numbers and figures, just choose the ones that suits you more.

Well for me this is a hobby so i chose film just simply because I enjoy it more :)

As mentioned by losheng and Shadowleong, its the same for me. I'm more interested in the enjoyment of photographing & its related processes itself than the photograph. Of cos if I get a great photo, all the better; but I my aim in photography is not about getting perfect photos (like that make my hobby very stress.. hehe). I guess it varies from person to person; what one expects out from this hobby.

Wat u guys said is very valid...

For me, I like mechanical stuff n I like film look... Especially bw film..

but for me the end product matters most..

Watever it is I really hope film will stay ... thats why I respect nikon n hasselblad for still producing film camera n lenses..

But I feel lazy even with digital darkroom to achieve wat I wan.. I am always looking for shortcut.. :)

found this:

Digital SLR vs. Film Scans, a technical discussion & comparison images

the author give up film altogether, including 4x5, after his own test...

although he sound convincing, such test does not include stuff like the supposingly higher DR offered by film and the analog nature of film (the more art look in my own words)..

i guess film still do better in handling shadow and highlight..

Very interesting article. All i can say is base on his writing, he is very right for those who takes photo and send to lab for developing. ( maybe scan as well) it is just a feeling, but i felt that if he does print, he doesn't do it oftenly.

Me vege bird, so i am not the right substance to comment.

The scanner author use is not good enough. Flare and insufficient of pick up resolution/ dynamic rage can visual from his sample. Many of so call professional never see big snack urine before and jump in to conclusion. Hee Hee.

Such chemical spoils your nose and damage your health and environment. I am not hero, but let me take the blame for all this damage caused by analog photography. I know you guys spent some cash on analog photography as well. As such, I am willing to pay no more than $1 per item. (Cost varies ;p)

Sell me all your analog lens and camera, film, chemical, darkroom processing equipment, paper, misc darkroom equipment like paper safe, analog photography aid equipment like light meter and scanner.

I wonder if anyone is interested in 4x5 wet print. I have some expired papers (8x10, 12x16, 16x20 etc) lying around the house. Just a few more steps to get a room converted into a darkroom (not those professional ones though). After which, I should be able to use the 4x5 enlarger already. Have talked to wootsk about this. I don't know what scope to deliver as my darkroom skills is limited to test strip, burn, dodge. Should be able to do a session next year at my place. Anyone maybe interested?

hi

i am keen. will pm u my mobile

Why not? I can bring my exposure meter.

You might not want to miss this one. You are all set for wide angle photography! The 45G is a pro level camera with geared rise and fall. Under USD350 for this set is a very good deal - the lens itself worths USD150-220. Each film holders worth USD7-15. And you save on the shipping cost of individual items.

hi brother

i contacted the seller. a nice chinese guy staying in Cananda.. this camera is really heavy, 7kg!!! and 3 knobs are melted... level is faulty but he fixed it..

i guess i am not going for it... anyone wants pls contact seller, he can ship by surface (10 weeks) and it is very cheap, $110 with $500 coverage!!! i love Cananda!!!

Hey, guys, Astia's (possibly) final stock has appeared on Adorama, and lualua needed more Provia (at USD$3.79 a pop, who can resist?), ernest wants 11x14 multigrade fb matt paper ... - so it goes again, another bulk order! If you need anything for yourself, you are most welcome to ride on the order - you know the drill - just fill up the order form here.

Please put down what you want before 3 Jan 2012, 10am. We will split the shipping and gst in proportion to everyone's order value, just as last time. I understand the collection can be a pain - having to take time off to make your way to town. I enjoyed meeting with you guys of course, but I can imagine the inconvenience on your side. After checking around, I think I can arrange for delivery for about $10 per destination from the local courier service on deadly speeding motorbikes. Not exactly cheap, but saves you parking/ERP/MRT-breakdowns. If you would like to me to have the item delivered to you, please indicate it on the last column of the order form. Of course, if you have contacts for cheaper delivery service, let me know as well.

Sorry for the short notice - I just don't want to miss the last batch of Astia :-)

losheng, I've make i order on the spreadsheet. Thanks for organizing this.:)

BTW, do you still have 500ml of fuji C6R color A/B develop to spare? I'm running out of color developer...

Folks,

In my recent darkroom clean up process, I found these. :dunno:

IMG_01506.jpg

All expired for just under 10 years and kept in a cabinet at room temperature, I'd believe they will not shoot like the XP2 you buy off the shelf from ruby. I have 200 rolls(all 120 format roll film) of them and selling all at a giveaway price. Pls refer to the following link.
