i guess film still do better in handling shadow and highlight..
Strange as it sounds - for human beings, better is not always better.
The audio CD is capable of higher fidelity reproduction than vinyls, but vinyls carry their own distortions that are actually pleasing to the human ears. Or at least those ears that have been conditioned to the kind of distortion.
Leica lens are loved for their distinct look, but that distinct look is a result of under-corrected aberrations.
Movie films are more pleasing to watch, though they are never as sharp or as crisp as the digital movies.
Film photography is a total experience from the way you shoot, to how the films are developed, printed, and how the end result look. So the merits cannot be judged solely by objective measures. It does better on some grounds, and far less on others. For god sake - b/w photographs don't even have colors on them!
