Super posion, I'm still deciding what 6x6 TLR to get. Any recommendation? For my budget, thinking of a seagull since still can get new at seng choon

For ShadowLeong:

A petty nice lightmeter with acceptable price (60USD not including shipment) to start off. One of the most reliable brand for analog light meter, Gossen.
FS Gossen Profisix Lightmeter

Thanks for looking out for me! This is an incident meter right? I have to get a spot attachment to make it a spot?

Just pmed the guy and he said he doesnt want to ship outside of the US =(

Would prefer a spot meter but any idea where to get locally and price?

Talk when we meet. Many places sells.

Danger to get old meter, especially GOSSEN. (oooppsss..... sorry hor SK)

The gossen is hell of a good deal... better sensitivity - able to measure moonlight.

The accessory beside the gossen is what you need to convert the bugger into a spot meter... should be easy and cheap at evil bay

Hmm, Very tempting thought 60USD If is use Vpost it should be less than 100 SGD? Well lets talk this sunday. Easier to discuss

Consider keh. With free posting to us address u can v post it over

Look for a Yashica 124 series or rolleicord? I think they are both good.

Downloading more poison.... I never knew how many I've got... just buy when i see a nice piece, or a model I do not have. Did a stock check, and I have 15. An assortment of rolleis from the earliest rolleicord 1 to a 1989 limited edition rolleiflex 2.8GX, a seagull and a yashica 635. My favourite of the lot is still a rolleicord V installed with a beattie intenscreen - light, bright and shockingly sharp.

Oh I love the square format!

Thats a lovely collection. Guess you have the accessories as well. I find that accessories can some times cost as much as the camera!

I will recommand you to complete your LF set first. It seems a bit wasted to use exposure based in Sunny 16 and pray. Anyway I gotten the spot metering because it is a bit tough to pin point a specified landscape point without a spot meter. In most cases, a typical light meter will do a very good job and thus it makes the spot meter harder to use if you are not used to caculating. I gotten my Sekonic spot for a steal after long camping, so I won't suggest you getting one of those if you are on budget.

Actually, I am not so sure about old analog light meter to their brand, but I do know an old man who has been using Gossen meter that is older than me. He is taking quite good care of it and it served him so well that when I tested in more extreme condition, it's sensitivity is damn accurate even when I place a white card infront of it. (I'm not sure about moonlight, but if the great Old Super Saiyan says so, it must be true :)) A lot of shooter are also supporting Gossen due to their high reliability in analog meter. Another one except the Gossen will be the cheap (not as cheap as this) and good Pentax Analog Spotmeter. (I read of the Pentax Analog Spotmeter and recommandation in the past, but never hands on 1 before)

Just some tech info from the Vege Bird.
Seleium meter works by converting light into weak electric power. High strong or weak the weak electric power is depends on the intensity of light.

All you need is

1) lens hood(MUST HAVE!!!)
2) Rolleinars (close up filters of 1-3 strength)
3) beattie/maxwell bright screen for old rolleis, the old screen is akin to looking into a dark well
4) Filters - hoyas are as good. In fact, i find some of the old original rollei filters to be expensive crap(the soft filter for example)
5) rolleifix - you need this so that you do not damage your rollei from constantly mounting and unmounting on the tripod/monopod

These things aren't cheap but if properly cared for, last a lifetime.

If the seagull is going to cost you $200 to $300, forget it and get a rolleicord. its better in all aspects except for 1 - brighter screen. But isn't image quality what we're going for here?

I've used enough rolleis and seagulls to know that the proportion of china lemons is far too higher then the rolleis. I've shot with at least 20 cords and have not come across a bad sample ( I'm talking about the III and above with the 4 element, "tessar" type lens). Don't have good experience with seagulls.

And yes, I service my own TLRs as well. The difference only becomes even more obvious when you see their guts laid out on the table. Its heaven and hell.

and yes, I've used a couple of yashicas as well. The 635 and the Mat 124G... pretty decent stuff but I'd touch them only if they're significantly cheaper than the rolleis.

Currently, I have not had any rolleinars yet. Good idea to look at it. Even the strap and case is expensive. So far I have not seen any third party half case for Rollei TLRs.
I wanted to get the Mutar 0.7x since the Distagon version is out of reach for me. The price is more than a 2.8D!
The Rollei world is just another slippery slope like Leica world. :(

Hey the rolleinars are great stuff - takes very high quality images and can even adjust for parallex errors. If you keep to bay 1 sizes, prices are pretty affordable.

For a start, a digital P&S makes a very good light meter cum polaroid - saves you the need to get a 405 back and FP-100C :-)

Alternatively, there are a few iPhone Lighter Meter apps that can help you get the job done for the moment.

As for spot meters, if you don't need the 1 degree finder, and older Sekonic L-328 with the 5 degree finder is very usable. There's also a 5 degree finder for the Minolta Autometer IVf. For a long term investment, personally I'm eyeing the Sekonic L-728, USD479 (*ouch* *ouch*) on ebay, comes with free international shipping from Hong Kong.

Just for your info, ShadowLeong has totally 0 digital camera and a analog camera with unstable light meter (if I am not wrong, it is some canon film camera) when I mentioned this suggestion to him in an outing quite sometime ago.:bsmilie:

Vege Bird more noob, so encountered condition where the 1 degree did came in handy. (I had a photo where I need a pin point accuracy metering when I am shooting something far under the other end of the block) I'm petty lucky to get my L-778 from Ebay for 200+ including shipment. Maybe if you pray hard enough, L-758 might appear at 300 with shipment. :)
