A short question for mamypoko, would you be able to mount a 210mm lens and focus it at infinity? Whats the longest one? I've read that the distance from focal plane(GG) to lens board (AkA bellows draw) is the one that affects this. I measured and its zhun zhun 21cm, so just nice it would fit 210mm?

I've been looking at russian LF lenses recently, most of them are barrel lenses. Looks like I would be visiting a machinist too.

Oh one last thing, have you ever adjusted your focal plane shutter? If so at what shop? I scared kena tok haha

Hey! Yes, I just mounted a Fujinon 210mm on my filed lens board (filed a little too big for the shutter and filled in a small gap with blu-tac) and it focuses to infinity, close focus probably to 2m - 3m? The bellows is almost all the way open though.

I am going to try some Petzval barrel lens too, but probably next year, probably a good idea to find a good machinist to help us drill the boards.

I haven't adjusted the shutter before, although I am keen to DIY myself. I'm not sure of anyone in Singapore who does the Graphic, although you can try asking Nick at CamX, so far he is okay.

When you need to focus nearer you still need extension. You can always make a board that has protrusion.

Just like recessed boards to bring the lens closer to film plan, you can make a protruding board (like a neh neh) to mount the longer lens.

Yep, thats true, I like your description hahaha

Hahaha what a way to put it! But i worry bout the weight of the camera being too far forward, if mounted like that!

I beileve most of the time i would use it at infinity so i think its alright. 210 seems to be the maximum a speed graphic can go.

When looking for barrel lenses we have to make sure it comes with a ring to mount it on a board right? whats that called uh

Petzval lenses are such a piece of history man! but those are very heavy!

not so sure abt the formula but i was told by the LF forum folks that for a telephoto lens, i should make sure my bellow draw is 1.33 x the focal legth in order to focus near. so a 210mm lens will need abt 280mm of bellow draws.

huh? u only focus at infinity most of the time? i like the 210mm lens for portrait :)

Yup, a retaining ring, if you buy any LF lens make sure it comes with a retaining ring, otherwise you have to find a way to mount the lens on the board.

Maybe since my lens is only a 135 + i only do landscapes, Even closeups i just did recently I never needed much bellows draw. My speed graphic only has about 210mm of bellows draw, oh man

thanks for the head up...now i am considering getting a Field Camera :p and quit the trolley gang :p

Hope he can spot this fast. Please spam for his wooden field camera.

FS - 4x5's $120 or less

Here are 2 4x5 cameras that need to go. I checked both bellows with a flashlight and they both passed.

Wooden camera is an Eastman View 33A, 4x5 with a non-original back. It looks like maybe a salvaged Ansco back to me. No ground glass, one lens board included. Ugly but a cheap way to try out 4x5... Price: $100 plus shipping.

Just to let you guys know that Ernest and I hooked up the Phototherm this afternoon, and did a dry run. Well, not exactly a dry run - it was a wet run actually - we only used water and the drum had no film. Everything seems to work. Next week we are going to try to develop some slides. Photos are here. (They are hosted on a private album service provided by my company.)

Anyone wants to contribute exposed rolls/sheets for test development? :-) Free development during the testing phase! But bear in mind that that things can go really wrong - so don't send in your Pulitzer shots just yet!

Oh man! Looks like a massive project! Jia you! If you're setting it up, I'm ordering slides!!
