my cheap and fast scanning workflow on my canonscan 9000f and Vuescan goes this way :
1. I definitely have to do 2 scans of the same negative as the scanner can only scan up to MF size.
2. Do the 1st scan (about the top 2/3 of the negative, lengthwise). i use the steps here : http://www.flickr.com/groups/ishootfilm/discuss/72157608204093047/
I think the key is to turn on the "lock exposure"
3. Shift the negative so that now the lower 2/3 is now being scanned. do not change any settings on Vuescan.
4. merge the 2 scans into one using Photoshop. i use the Photomerge function in PS. Then u can do yr digital darkroom skills to edit to taste.

I only scan BW negatives so no problem with white balance.

Just my 2 cents :)

Can try w/o dry mount and calibration for $15-20 a pop? I am not sure if people using Canon 9000F will take it and whether it is feasible on your end to do it on regular basis. Afterall, it is a notch above V700 and colour can be photoshopped to certain extent.

Sounds great!

Looks like in future we can organize the meeting into three categories:

1. L F shoot sessions
a. southern islands. Due to my fishing hobby I goto Sister Island, Kusu or St Johns. Many nice LF opportunities.
b. Marina Bay area
c. Old UBin area
d. something we talked during last outing : L F model shooting.

We can also make known our outing, so that potential service provider on development/scanning can standby or quote.

2. L F development sessions
If we have the support of LF develop/scan, then this type of session can be minimum.
May need to find a location to do.
We can possibly find a place like school

3. L F scanning sessions
I believe meeting up is a lot better than online discussions.
Also, from point (1), if we have a service provider, then its more or less resolved.

Wishing everyone Happy Mid Autumn Festival !!!!:)

I don't mind doing it for $20/frame if you all can collate your orders from each outing. Min order would be 4 frames. Dry mount and no dust/scratch touch up. I'll throw in colour calibration for you guys for free once I get my calibration targets.. :)
Forgot to add: Resolution is at 2000dpi, roughly about 80MP. Doubt you all want 2Gb files anyways ;)

I have found a bigger polaroid back ( Fuji PA-45 ) that is possible to work with 4x5 back.

The film used is :
FP-100 C45 - color
FP-100 B45 - black white
FP-3000 B45 - iso-3000 back white

seem like the exposed image area is 9cm x 12cm ( slightly bigger that what the FP-100 C is able to produce ).

Have anyone used this instant film before ?

thanks
Billy

FS - Tachihara 4x5 field camera
I don't need 2 field cameras, so ......
For sale, Tachihara 4x5 cherry & brass field camera in almost new condition. I've used it very little & there are no marks on it that I can find. Included is a ground glass protector, a cable release, a Black Jacket focusing cloth, and 4 lens boards: a #1 & 3 #0's. One of the 0's has the hole bored off center, the other two are centered.
Asking $525.00 firm, including shipping to the lower 48. PM me if you have questions, or if you're interested.
NOTE - I had 2 other pictures, a side view & one of the other items, but there's a limit of 4 so I couldn't include them. Also, the reflection in the ground glass is the floor.

I got a feeling that it will be gone before next morning 9am, but if you don't have an account with the forum for a month, you cannot contact the seller.

Great price, one of the cameras I've always wanted to get, I'm out of budget for the next few months though ):

My little contribution to the whole scanning business - after fighting with my Coolscan for a few months, I have come to this conclusion - scanning is just so damn bloody painful, and worse of all - not fun, which really kind of killed the whole point why the shot was made in the first place. And since most of the scanning is only needed for quick sharing online, I'm going to skip all that pain and just use a copy stand, a lightbox, and a macro lens. My digital camera can shoot faster than I can change the neg/slide on the lightbox. At the typical 2-5 megapixel screen resolutions, it's just not worth all that trouble. After all, people use camera apps to go on great lengths to degrade the image quality, so I'm not going to be too anal about this.

If for a strange stroke of pure luck that I ended up with a master piece that I want to put it up on the wall - I will not hesitate to pay good price for a good scan. In the scheme of things - the cost of the print and the frame - it's not something to be stingy about. Of course this will be a problem if I start churning out masterpiece after masterpiece, which will surely make this approach a very costly affair, not to mention the fact that I will run out of walls to hang them. Luckily for me - after already lived past the halfway point of Singapore men's life expectancy, I'm fairly confident that this is unlikely to happen. I don't know about you young folks though :-)

I won't be running a digital scan unless I produce a something which I want a long life digital archive. (Vege bird still noob) If it is that important, I will be either finding a drum scan or high end dedicated scanner service.

If it is a piece I want to put on the wall, I will be looking for paper, chemical and darkroom instead of printing from scan. Regarding frames, when I am still doing some small time commercial work for some cash on supplying my hoddy and mouth, I gotten some petty cheap and good looking wooden frames from IKEA. :D Just my 2 cents.

If just for quick presentation, can use the very old technique of Slide Duplicator.
Put 4"X5" on light box, then a DSLR with a super sharp macro lens like the 55mm F3.5 Nikkor micro to shoot.
Used to do that on 135mm old slides. Not bad.

4"X5" still manageable.

I have two of my X-ray lung scans on the wall. That is freaking bigger than 4"x5".
