Moderator, can we have LF group please? :)
was just happily minding my own business when i came across this thread. this would have to go up to the admins, but just a couple of things to consider...

i actually recalled that this sub-forum use to be called LF/MF, no? would you think that it would be sufficient to rename this "medium format" sub forum, and recognise it for what it is, "medium format and large format" sub-forum?

while the equipment might be different, as well as the size of the medium, are there greater benefits in being together in 1 sub-forum, rather than splitting into 2? e.g. MF/LF outings, ppl that use both, processing techniques, etc. you can always have your MF user list and LF user list, [MF], [LF] or [MF&LF] prefixs to differentiate threads.

or really, is this space not big enough for your two of you? that the cons of being together outweight the benefits? to that end, i would like to prospose that you consider just asking for the sub-forum to be renamed, "medium format and large format" sub-forum or "large format and medium format" sub-forum... would that work?

Hi,

It remains a fact that this sub forum is branded as a medium format section and not a medium and large format section. There are obvious differences between medium and large format - flim size, roll film or sheet film etc. To some they're nearly the same yet to others, they're worlds apart. The point is they are not the same.

I always felt a little out of place posting issues relating to LF in an MF forum.

总之,就是没有那种家的感觉!

Medium Format vs Large Format

6X6 , 6X7 , 6X8 , 612 (cm) are all much smaller than 4X5 (inches)

Most LF are shot with Shift and Tilt, which is absent in most MF (other than GX680)

Composition done upside down, not upright

Tilt shift needs brain and loupe to confirm

Shooting speed is 10X slower than MF

MF can do street photo, LF cannot (can if you are damn good)

Most LF lenses can cover much bigger than 4X5. Even if not, there are little distortion.

Shotting LF and MF are entirely different experiences. It is NOT the same as shooting cropped DX vs FX full frame.

By compressing the two together, its limiting the LF discussion. I would propose LF section:

1. Lens discussion, will be a big bunch
2. Camera models, again a big bunch
3. Backs
4. Film LF
5. Developing LF film
.....
so much to talk

Finally, Mod, I discharged from service so long ...... company has people, how many, don't care, as long as I not in it... ha ha.

With due respect to the admins and moderators

Large Format photography is where photography begins, or at least that is what the history books told us.

If there are sub forums to cater for alternative forms of photography such as Lomography pinhole and aerial(even!) photography, surely we can squeeze in a tiny little sub section for LF users,no?

Boss Nikkornos, i suggest you post this under FAQs and Feedback section to get the attention of the Admins. Moderators probably can only moderate existing forums but not create new sub forums. the Admins probably has not read this thread so you do not see any response from the Admins.

I have a suggestion, we mount our DSLR on LF and shoot DLF. Maybe then they will respond.
My D800 coming, maybe they won't kick me out if use D800 and try to be funny.

Ummm....... in LF the D FF camera is cropped factor how much arhhhh???

I think I just said hi to the admin (Hopefully he is not too busy, bad mood and hungry to grill this Vege Bird for lunch). Hope he post his views here in reply.

DR KOH KHO KING » Blog Archive » My Thought on the Nikon D800 DSLR (36MP)

APS-C formatting for the camera depending on brand x (1/0.299)

Example:
Canon entry level is 1.6
So 1.6 x (1/0.299)

Nikon is 1.5
so 1.5 x (1/0.299)

1/0.299 is calculation for 4x5 to standard 135 format size of 24mm x 36mm

That works out to be 0.006550....

Need a high power magnifying glass. :bsmilie:
