It fails the squeeze test. It flexes quite a bit.
Wow! You must have a grip like the man of steel! I shudders to think of the day I shake hands with you! :bsmilie:

You must be very strong as I couldn't flex the top plate of my L1 at all.
Wow... Wouldn't want to thumb wrestle with you then.... you might snap off my thumb :bigeyes:Either that or the ones in Japan aren't as strong as the one's they export. :dunno:
I used my thumb btw.

Are you sure it's not a dummy plastic model of the L1 that you flexed in Japan ... like those dummy handphones in our local handphone shops?![]()
Don't worry. I am old enough to know what I want and make my own decisions. I only believe my own assessments of what's good and bad in a camera. It is all relative to each individual's shooting style anyway. I'm impartial about any camera I own, after all they are just tools. I 've been very clear about what I liked and disliked about the L1 and I have posted as much in my assessment of it in this forum. So far, I definitely have no regrets as its good points more than outweigh its bad.Yeah you are probably right - a dummy plastic model that worked like the real deal (working LCD and controls). Or was it...? Oh wait -I must've mixed up a Panasonic phone with an in-built camera with the L1 - That was it... Those darn things all look so alike don't they - cheap and nasty. tsk tsk.
Hey, like it or not that was my experience with the L1. You don't have to be concerned just bec you bought the camera - don't let my assessment of it make you regret your decision - you seem miffed that I am dissing the thing. Just airing my views. I'm sure users will make up their own minds when it comes to the crunch.
BTW, I am not anti-Panasonic if that is what you are thinking.![]()

yes but at what price?
Can you get the same quality from a cheaper product?
Yes I have actually (if you had read my post carefully I mentioned that I tried it side by side with the Epson RD1)and I will still hold to my opinion that the build quality of the L1 is not commensurate with it's price tag. I am not talking about optical quality but build quality. The L1 is light is weight and with the lens mounted feels unbalanced IMO.
I suspect the red dot version would be stiffened up a bit by some aluminium/magnesium, so it feels better. At the same time, giving Leica to smack down another $500 - $1,000 on the retail price.
Come December, the lens alone would go on retail... I shudder to think at the cost, after all it does say L-E-I-C-A. :bsmilie:
Seems like you pay for the extended 3-year warranty and no questions ask 6-months' insurance.
Aaaagghhhh...tempted...blu's tempted but the red dot!!!!.....the lens while big, did not feel heavy or well built, but certainly felt better than the 14-54mm.
The lens though designed and made to Leica's standards does not come with the red dot and so should not cost as much as a made-by-Leica lens. Otherwise, it would mean the L1 camera body might cost less than $1k.Aaaagghhhh...tempted...blu's tempted but the red dot!!!!
Anyone selling the L1's kit lens?? hehehehe Uncle tomcat...wanna let go of that for a full Leica?
BTW, must butter butter a bit...call Uncle mah...hehehehe.
