I will be using it mostly for pictures of landscape and people just casually, not modeling/portrait.
The times I will use the camera the most is when im travelling (but the weight of the lens does not really affect me that much...)

Hope this can reel in some suggestions

Heh like that rather stick normal ef lenses or even better just use a point n shoot...

Then dont get a L lens. Getting L lens for casual purpose is like driving a ferrari to travel at 60 km/h.

lol.

get 35 and 24 105.

If you have to ask, you don't need it :)

24L ii + 24-70L ii
Why? Because they are mk ii.

Which camera body are you planning on pair this with?

if i were you, i go for 24L and 24-105L
24L for your landscape
24-105L for your travelling usage (due to it's lighter weight, more versatile zoom and IS which good for both photo n video)

he gonna shoot landscape at 1.4?

the 24 on the 24 105 cannot shoot landscape?

I keep finding reviews saying that the 35mm is much better than the 24mm, especially because the 35mm does not get the corners messed up

it is. i practically have it on my 5D all the time when i travel. lol

Efs 17-55 f2.8 IS
Sigma 30mm f1.4
Done.
Cheap and good.

I am going to be using it on a Canon 7D

7D? Then all the more you should be looking at lenses such as 17-55 than a 24-105..? Dont get too carried away with the red ring..

just saw this thread,

http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/canon/1166629-ready-spend-some-big-$$$-but-one.html

you already got the answers,

you had set your mind the choices,

what else you need to know?

want us to double confirm the answer is good?

boss, maybe he wanna accumulate more 'threads started'?
or get more people to answer his question, cos this thread mostly different people answering (though answers are generally similar)?

I'm sure by now TS should have an idea what everyone is trying to say
it's a chicken and egg thing - only if you shoot more you will know which one is better for YOU
if you don't buy lens to shoot then you will never know the answer ;)
Reading more reviews you will see that EVERY lens has their pros and cons, there is no 1 lens to conquer them all ;p

7d....only to shoot during holidays....pity the camera...really better to just buys a point and shoot..go get the Canon g1x..end of story..even the veteran photographer i met when iwas birding told me about this kind of things..why bother buying adslr n all the expensive stuff when ur only going to use it during ur birthday or holiday..guess he has seen enough young people waste away their money just to satisfy their cravings

If its the 7D, then stick with EFS lenses (17-55f2.8 or the Tamron 17-50f2.8), you do not need L lenses for casual landscapes and snapshots during your holiday.
Save the money and spend it on your holiday. The 17-55/17-50 will cover all the requirements of a casual shooter, whether its landscapes, portraits, etc...

If you have more specific needs for landscape, then pair the 17-55/50 with the EFS10-22/Sigma10-20(any one), and you would have covered all the requirments. Probably get very nice pictures as well. The L lenses on the APSC sensor would be too tight due to the 1.6x crop, unless you are just taking mostly single person with backgrounds or head & shoulder portraits. Use the right tool for the job. Don't buy the L just because of the red ring and find that you cannot take the pictures you want and waste money.
