thanks for the pics man! i used to ride up north during weekends with some bikers just for roti prata(commonly known as roti canai) and teh tarik.@ that time i was so obsessed with bikes and speed. never thought of taking pics! kulai,simpang renggam,desaru,pontian,batu pahat,pagoh,air hitam..are just some of the places that are not highly and rapidly developed during my biking times.

and now,after viewing those pics,memories afloat almost instantly. damn,i've been passing thru such places only for my regular touring and shopping, but never shooting pics. i think i wanna go back and shoot.

papajanggo33, glad that you like the photo. I was like you, travel pass the small towns without taking any photo and do not think it is interesting. One day when I travel to Batu Pahat (after a few years of last visit to Batu Pahat) the only thing I could remember is the small traffic circle, the changes were major.

New shop house completed just opposite Kulai Hospital.

The newly installed flood control lake is working now, no more flood after heavy rain at the traffic juction of HTL.

The shopping centre next to Kulai KTM train station just started work months ago. The contruction of the shopping centre had stop about twenty year.

I have never been to Kulai; but there are many such small towns and kampongs in Msia; where development is slow, and so is the pace of life. It is a choice we all must make - everything clean, nice, working versus not everything clean, nice and working. I don't see people in the pictures. A photo-journal of a peaceful quiet town will show the "pace" and how can you show it? How do you want to project Kulai? Imagine you will make a coffee table book (which is now possible with technology) that captures the essence of life in Kulai; how will you do it?

Thank you for the comments. I had been ask many time why there were no people in the pictures, it take me a little time to find out why. Since I do not live in Kulai, I was consider a foreigner, local people do not like to be taken photo. They ask a lot of question, if you are from the press, any agnecy and etc. So far I had never seen a second person with DSLR shooting in Kulai, as a result if they think I was from the press I am not surprise. Local people do not like to be film and they think the photo will be reported on the news paper and etc. To overcome the issues, I many need to make some local friends and if possible invite them to do some photo shooting, in this way possible to capture the essence of life in Kulai. Make this as my next photo shooting assignment.

Nice shots. Recognize a few places in the photos, especially the last two, and I recall some of the history of the place.

The place where the construction of the building standing, was once called Kulai Lane. 20 years ago, about 1981, there was a big fire burnt down two rows of shops which were near the main road, but left the last row which was near the train railway totally unaffected, it was a great lost and major set back to the town.
10 years later in 1991/1992, the shop owners were asked to leave the place, however the construction wasn't started until 1993/1994, but the construction was halted in 1995/1996, reason unknown but most likely due to economy crisis. Not sure when it was resume, I suppose it should be 2 years ago, now the building is finally completed.

The last photo, if you were standing there 10 years ago, you would see a big ICI logo there.

Thank you for the comments. Are you talking about nurseries for flowers, if you are travel by the old road north direction after passing Senai Airport and just before the first traffic light at your left you will find one nurseries.

Sunflower

I had try to shoot the sunflower using EF 20-35mm f/2.8 L, EF 100-300mm f/5.6 L and EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro. After exam all the pictures carefully, the 100mm f/2.8 Macro's photo standout with clear, sharp and with full details of the sunflower.

The sunflower took about three to four months to grow, but each sunflower only last for 1 to 3 days and it is gone. Under the sun, the sunflower can be seen from far away, and it is just simply beautiful.

There were some old houses at Kelapa Sawit Kulai which I took some photo before, now could not be found. Pic#45 & 46 the ICI old factory now gone.

Sometime to re-visit the home town or the place we grew up is just a car key/air ticket away. Never too late.
