Yar :p the next one would be in October when Deepavali and HariRayaPuasa collide ;p
But by then it'll be rain season in Krabi most definitely

Without experience they will let you climb..no problem. Best rock climbing in SE ASIA. Great view and experience.

Ooh :D that'lll be nice. Always like scaling great heights, but am a little afraid of heights when I'm standing on top. I wonder if they have climbs nearer to the sunset hours... would love to get a snap of the whole area on top of the limestone.

I would like to climb the limestone that's in your first pic. from the first few pictures that you posted... is that the same limestone you climb?

Ooh... But no experience, how to climb down and up? However, it would be damned solid to take those photos... ;p

Sab, most probably I will go to Krabi with you. Anyone else?

How abt November? Still raining? Planning for a relaxing + photoshoot trip somewhere in November..some plan destinations - Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi, Bintan..but worry abt monsoon..:dunno:

November is the time when the weather is starting to get better. I went in late November once and it only rained in the evening but other than that it was very good weather.

Hi sabbatical,
They will teach you how to rock climb but to climb and carry camera up is not going to be easy. Quite risky and your hands may be very tired to shoot from the top and for first timers I think you will be concentrating aon the climb rather than taking pictures. You must go for a massage after rock climbing ...it feels great

The scenery of railay bay I took from the top was actually taken during a caving , this is where the guide led us through the cave system inside the limestone cliffs. Very dark and very exciting. After some climbing we emerged at a cave opening. I stuck myself out of the opening and shot the veiw of the bay as seen in the picture before rappelling down the side of the cliff.

There are lots of photo opportunities but you have to be carefull with your camera. I don't know how my camera survived through the sand from the sea, rock climbing, the cave, sea water, thunderstorm and everything.

You will have a lot of this type of scenery around the Krabi region

I've been to railay 3 times over the last 15 months. twice in off-peak and once during peak. (apr & aug 05, jun 06)

Peak season (oct to apr) - higher prices, more people, better weather.
Off-peak (may to sep)- lower prices, less people, also correspondingly worse weather.

Info all readily available on websites.

If you have no experience, you hire guides. they do everything to ensure your safety...and are mostly very experience. (though i've only climbed with 2 guides so far...i always look for my guide.)

climbing normally ends about 5pm-ish. seldom that near sunset.
if weather is good, u will see railay west beach come alive every evening with beach volleyballers and beach soccer players.

I love railay.

Railay June 06
Railay Aug 05
Railay Apr 05

Thanks Socrates & LezY for sharing your Krabi knowledge, experience and photos :D
All that information is going to come in very handy

Alright, time flies... so time to make a confirmed decision on Krabi trip head count.

We need to meet up to talk about lodging & flight details and bookings. Also to see if we really want to sleep in the same room :bsmilie: since room cost is the same for one per room or two per room.

Tmr is the only day left to do this, so Fri evening Orchard area, meet at the BK next to Borders at 8pm, can? I'll be speeding down from Parsir Ris.

EXPLODED?? With smoke, flames and flying bits of hardware?? Wah... someone overclocked your PC ah??
The whole storey? What kinda place you staying in?

Ok thanks for your SMS contact, so I'll see you tmr at the place and time mentioned.

No flames lah. The housing contained the explosion ba. After 1 sec, the whole storey (3 other neighbours) all tripped. Then charred smell, so open window and ventilate loor.

Now surviving on my lappie.

Sigh... I think I cannot make it for this trip le...

You guys enjoy...

Haha, sab, see you next time!

Went to Krabi last month, some personal opinion share with you, hope it
helps.
1> Although Ao Nang beach is convenient and easy to find accomodation, but if you've been
Phuket Patong, then I recommend you stay at Railay beach, which is about 10 mins away from
Ao Nang by long tail boat (boat fee is 60 Baht per person per way ), be ready to wet when you
board. Railay beach is shorter but much nicer than Ao Nang and you can walk to Pranang beach in
10 mins, aonther beatiful beach for swimming.
2>Food in Railay beach will be a bit more expensive than in Ao Nang since there's no land transportation
from Krabi town to Railay, and few restaurant here so choice will be lesser.
3>The cliff climbing is located at Railay east side, you might give a try if you interest .there's some
climbing club there, they'll teach you even you're a totally newbie . of cource, don't forget
to bring your camera to "cacha cacha ".
4>Spent all your time to just relax on the beach is definitely a great waste, island hopping is a way
to enrich your journey. form what local people said, Hong island is the most beautiful island around Krabi, one
day tour package cost about 1500 Baht.
5>If you've choosed to go PhiPhi Island, then my suggestion is, go by ferry (300 Baht one way),you may
freely arrange your time at PhiPhi, not like me, joind the package tour , missed the chance to go to
the view point which you need to climb up the mountain .you may see the amazing scene which you can find
in the postcard over there ! But of course, if you'd like to see famous Maya beach which the film " The beach " took from
there, then you'd better go by package.
6>Accomodation at Railay is not pesky .I booked a triple room at 'Railay bay resort and spa ' from internet,
they have promotion now, stay 3 night pay 2 night only, the delux triple room (aircon ,hot water ) price
is 1800 Baht include breakfast. Stay 3 night = 1800 x2 baht = S$ 150 only,not expensive right? you may
check website www.sawadee.com for booking. got other resort also. There are guest house at Railay east side
which is much more cheaper ,suitable for those long staying.
Enjoy your stay at Krabi !:)

Thanks for the detailed info. Singapula :)
So why is it that to go to Maya beach I have to go with package tour?
I can't get a long boat to ferry me there?
