i was stunned when i heard the news - i only bought the dynax 5d a fortnight ago -_-
but then i feel it's a win-win situation now, since some might want to dump their KM lenses and accessories for cheap and sony will continue to make lenses for the minolta mount.

only hope their lenses can be backward compatible with 5d/7d. if not....wrath will be incurred haha.

go buy canon like CS lor... go go go...

Good luck to Sony when they take over Minolta ......cos Minolta 5D now has a lot of quality issues as far I know ......:bsmilie:

They had better come up with a firmware upgrade soon ......

As least Sony is a more stable company than Konica Minolta. Wonder will other smaller DSLR manufacturers face the same fate or not.

Not true.... Sony has been struggling for profitability for some years now... the reason being that it has been left behind in the electronics market... they are seriously lagging behind in portable MP3 players, digital cameras and flat panel screens, computer peripheral as well as other personal entertainment devices... the only area that Sony has made a killing is in the games console segment and that is increasingly threatened by Microsoft... in other words, their stuff are overpriced with little innovation... gone were the heady days of the Walkman and Discman where everyone tried to buy a Sony...

Sony has now a new CEO (or something like that) and the acquisition of KM is probably one of his ideas to turn around Sony... it's really a quantum leap for the company in terms of the camera segment as they are acquiring 'know-how' which has been denied to them for a very long time... if u look at the prosumer market, they've probably got one of the worst performing digicams in terms of image performance, etc... the KM 'assets' would help close the gap on Canon, Nikon, and Olympus.

Hiee Guys....

Come on....we are photographers.....we use cameras.....the brand should not be that a great deal.....

I'm sure those already have cameras here are using already great cameras....so don't worry too much lah....... go out and shoot...

Ahem... it's the price point and the proprietary formats that Sony is famous for that is making some of us, including me worried...

D200 nicer...haha

Sure... but the ergonometric sucks!! Was going to look for 2nd system to support my KM gear. Canon seems to be better fit for me, at least full frame option is very appealing.

The high speed version costs S$180, while the normal one costs S$145. All recommended prices by Sony. ;)

Just curious, why do you find the ergonomics of the D200 bad?

Konica Minolta (KM) will only be involved in doing R & D for Sony and supplying the Lens to them...

My Question is: will the quality of KM lenses be much better than Carl Zeiss lenses?

Sad to know next time we won't see any KM cameras on the market anymore..

That makes the KM cameras we are owning now Collectors' Items ....... value may appreciate over time .....;p

It is good news to me on the buy over . On the comments that KM5 has alot of issues, it is baseless as I have yet to encounter any problem with my KM5D . The AS has helped me take nice photographs with the 300mm lens .Anyway, I am keeping the KM5D as a collector's item, probably the last you will see in the market ...:) :) :)

Now I wonder if Sony going to service old minolta cam....
I think my dad's X-700 need to replace the seal
I think I better bring it to KM service center fast...

I don't know, it just me... It doesn't mold into my hand as compare to 7D... (I am a bit choosy in that respect). It is purely my opinion... hehe..

Sad news indeed, chaps.

I'll be stopping by from time to time to see what's on the horizon.

However, I will not be selling my Minolta gear and hope there will be a service route available with this takeover.

Oh, you were comparing the 7D with the D200. I thought you were comparing the D200 with one of the offerings from Canon's DSLR, hehe... For me, I am not used to Canon's ergonomics, prefer the ergonomics of Nikon's and Minolta's... Love the Dynax 7 handling. I can't believe I am holding one of the last pieces of Minolta SLRs... It's like Minolta sold themselve to a company that is quite the opposite to itself...
