I thought it was pretty funny that I wanted a... Konica Minolta Dynax 5 Digital (goes blue in the face)
Where are all those nafa/poly students who bought minolta SLRs?

Merger is always painful.
For the employees of affected companies.
After merger many are found to be "redundant". now got two sets of employees suddenly.
They become targets for retrenchment or demotion at the slightest excuse.

It is not funny when it happens to you.

Usually there is a stronger partner and a weaker partner.
The employees of the weaker partner often suffer terribly.
But they suffer in silence as they dare not grumble as the new management is just waiting to identify dissenters for retrenchment.
They get bullied terribly within the new organisation and may even be purposely humiliated by the new management just to show who is boss.

In this case it appears that Minolta is the weaker partner.

Minolta was a great name.

I think many companies bled rivers of red ink in APS fiasco.
Some recovered, some did not.

But in APS case, I think the companies involved deserved to lose massive amounts of money (maybe billions$)

They were trying to corner the consumer into a lose-lose situation.
To buy whole new sets of APS lenses all over again.
To depend on overpriced processing and printing of APS.

They did not see the digital revolution coming and got killed.

watch out and see what happens to 4/3
maybe another APS type fiasco in the making
there's nothing wrong with 4/3, noisy sensor now dun mean noisy forever (cmos vs ccd?)
just that the lenses mkt less interesting.
otherwise if u can fork out new dough the 4/3 lineup is complete.

True abt the noise and technology, just that other APS and FF sensors can achieve same (or better) result easier.

After E-300, the newer installment E-500 shows improvement but still lacking.

Hey Synapseman,

That guy is a dud. I am sorry to hear that you had to run into such dodgy characters. I've had my fair share of meeting up with those suckers. Good luck in selling away that piece of gem. Cheer!

PS: How's the 5D going? I might get one for my gf...hehe...

Minolta was great brand name and hopefully remains that way after becoming KM. I compare Apple and Minolta the same. Great product, bad marketting. There are poeple who go with band wagon and others who are true fan. Both Apple and Minolta have great loyal fan. Even without knowing anything about SLRs and camera brands, I bought my 600si over all the competators (Nikon, Canon, and Pentax). Very little I knew that I had just found a great brand. I believe the buyer was actually true Minolta fan because my wife was very disspointed when M became KM. None the less, she is still minolta fan and refuses to switch to any other brands. If buyer was new, he would go with Nikon or Canon anyway. Just 2 cents from yet another Minolta fan.

anyway think their product departments are sliced vertically...
but it seems from what I read here that the tech suppot overdid cost cutting... is it true?

minolta got de-valued by merger with konica

olympus 4/3 system is not as good as conventional SLR design

period

are u referring to just the e300? e1 and e500 how?

his interest to buy your camera itself, already means that he admitted that the camera is of "acceptable" quality by his own standards. the chap is probably trying to confuse you to get a better bargain, something which you already know without asking any of us.
