azhou and i originally planned to make our own PAD project entirely in b/w too...but i broke the rule ;p

hey khairi, i've always admired a sense of 'boldness' in your street pictures...boldness not only in technique (getting up close etc) ... but also boldness in the themes you choose to portray

not only you, i also broke the rule in one of my pix. Just i guess noone realised it's not actually a black and white picture but a picture of 'black and white' world.

I like your Ubi Ave 1.

Stereobox:
No lah...me not bold or 'bold'...i myself dunno if i'm bold or not.

angelzhou:
a black and white world...not gotham city thingy ya...haha

all i know is that, not many would want to look at my photos and think
but many would say how terrible the whole picture is/was.
esp those technical and intention issues.

haha...what to do...i myself cant be bothered with what ppl say bcos
i believe my photos will hit a certain percentage of viewers and miss the rest
Like what zaren will always say "just keep shooting"

U like that ONE and ONLY "Ubi Ave 1" photo?
in fact...me too! cos i always tot that
that's how i'd look like in the heavy dwnpour.

I guess technical comments are part and parcel, as well as the ubiquitous problem faced by any kind art-form, be it photography, painting, installation art, music, plays or drama. People with a bit of know-how will tend to exercise that bit of knowledge to see how it is weighed against the art-form. And though the appreciation of the art-form by many is genuine, it is extremely difficult to express that appreciation into words. In the eyes of many, "nice" doesn't really account to anything, other than a courteous gesture of courtesy.

Anyway, just to sum up my thoughts of your pictures so far, if I didn't do so over MSN that is:
(1) Impressive collection of works that though readily forgettable, have got away with murder on several occasions.
(2) Proves once again that while one piece of work that goes against convention is considered "bad", a whole series of works employing that same technique (against convention) is considered to be a "style".
(3) A lot of mindless shooting. That's good... I guess. Well, at least for you.

haha i like his attitude already :bsmilie:

can critique our PAD as well?

i think your series would be better than many of the "uniquely singapore" competition stuff imho. because yours portray the everyday sights which people take for granted and filter out.

every little trivial, ritualistic moment can be a reflection of the attitudes and personality of the society.

there seems to be minimal manipulation in your shots, which i like alot, because i feel we should react to circumstances such as the lighting of that particular moment, and it is this that often makes photography beautiful (esp street). capturing the authentic scene. i dun see much overkill or pretense in your shots, they are modest and sensitive; plenty to learn from you man...

these photos are digital, not film izzit? cos i tot film would be v costly judging from the way you shoot :P

Nice stuff!

If the monks were crossing along upper serangoon road, it'd be like 'Abbey Road' (the beatles album) cover with a twist (Especially when you factor in their 'bigger than jesus' comment they made in an interview on that album). :)
