Kingsman: The Secret Service
Chinese New Year Day 5
[2015/02/23]

BG Info: After a year of not watching movies, I am back at the cinema. This time watching how gentlemen in suits fight each other and save the world from evil. I like the show.

Manners Maketh Man.

Fu Lu Shou
Chinese New Year Day 6
[2015/02/24]

BG Info: Fu, Lu, and Shou, is the concept of Prosperity (Fu), Status (Lu), and Longevity (Shou). This concept of the Chinese traditional religion is thought to date back to the Ming Dynasty, when the Fu Star, Lu Star and Shou Star were considered to be personified deities of these attributes respectively.

The term is commonly used in Chinese culture to denote the three attributes of a good life. Statues of these three gods are found on the facades of folk religion's temples and ancestral shrines, in nearly every Chinese home and many Chinese-owned shops on small altars with a glass of water, an orange or other auspicious offerings, especially during Chinese New Year. Traditionally, they are arranged left to right (so Fu is on the left of the viewer, Lu in the middle, and Shou on the far right).

Alma Mater
Chinese New Year Day 7
[2015/02/25]

BG Info: Fourteen years ago, I stepped in here without knowledge about what was going on in the world. Eleven years ago, I stepped out from this school a changed person. Secondary school is a period where we have the most changes to our lives. Friends come and go, some stayed by your side, some left for their own good. Too little capacity for too many memories. We can only remember this much. Years down the road, we might not remember what was the slightest thing that really made us happy years ago.

Singapore's Skyline
Chinese New Year Day 8
[2015/02/26]

BG Info: Taking a breather at ION Sky, Level 55/56 Observatory with a flow of classical music in the background. The view up here indeed looks pretty amazing. This place feels like the central while I get to see far and wide in all directions.

Bai Tian Gong
Chinese New Year Day 9
[2015/02/27]

BG Info: Legend has it that Hokkien villagers were pursued by bandits during the Ming Dynasty. The group of villagers hid in the sugarcane plantation, and only emerged on the 9th day of Chinese New Year after the bandits gave up searching for them. Traditions were put in place to give thanks to the heaven gods whom the villagers prayed to for salvation.

Good Morning Changi, Goodbye Singapore
Chinese New Year Day 11
[2015/03/01]

BG Info: It is the start of a new month. Leaving for Tokyo, back to work on a morning flight. Flight was delayed by nearly an hour and we were stuck on runway, queueing for takeoff. The queueing started when we had to self-check in at the counters which formed a ridiculously long queue (United Airlines bound for America). Extra checks at the Singapore customs because of United Airlines. Queued for an hour at the boarding gate because? There you got it, United Airlines bound for America (despite the fact that I am ending the journey in Tokyo). All the queueing delayed the flight schedule.

When one level for train is too overrated
Chinese New Year Day 12
[2015/03/02]

BG Info: When one level of train is not enough, they have two levels cabins in Japan. This cabin is known as the "Green Car", where it only allows seating. You need to reserve a seat through the ticketing system which can be found on the platforms. Of course, by reserving a seat, you will need to pay more for the comfort.

Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day)
Chinese New Year Day 13
[2015/03/03]

BG Info: It is interesting to note that, in Japan, Girls' Day is not a public holiday but Boys' Day is part of the Golden Week, which is a public holiday. Today is Girls' Day. Normally we see the altar where they set up the dolls for display and celebration use, but I can't seem to find it anywhere today. However, there are many souvenir shops selling many kinds of gifts for Girls' Day celebration. The packaging is also mostly pinkish, coupled with the fact that the Sakura decorations are already up in the malls. Sakura season is coming.

First Signs of Sakura Bloom
Chinese New Year Day 14
[2015/03/04]

BG Info: First signs of Sakura has started. This photo was taken on the way to Lunch. This building is a school campus beside my office building. Looks like the other areas will soon start blooming too. Sakura flowers gives the whole place a pinkish tint which adds colours to the ever boring grey that we see here in most Japan's buildings.

Noise Pollution
Chinese New Year Day 15
[2015/03/05]

BG Info: To me, my work place has very high noise pollution index. I need good headphones to drown out the sounds around me so that I can focus on what I am doing. There are people who come around every now and then to chit chat, and they make a hell lots of noise. It is not constructive. Just purely disruptive. And there was this guy from somewhere above, who always come over to my side of the office to talk about life and philosophical stuff. The culture is that, he is higher rank in the office, you cannot reject his forced "invitation" to his conversation. I will just put on the headphones every time I see him walking towards my area in the office. He normally comes around two to three times a day, one can start wondering what the hell he does with his work time during office hours.

Another occasion was that I used the headphones, this senior guy (who came in one year before me to the company) came over and started shouting at me, warning me not to listen to music to focus on my work. I pointed over to our line manager, who was also listening to the music to focus on his earphones. The senior guy did not know what to reply, and he said because he is senior and he said so. So, I stood up and reminded him that there is this clause regarding "Power Harassment" in the law, and I told him to go **** himself. Subsequently, he dropped the case because he lost the whole argument.

Paper Balls
[2015/03/06]

BG Info: Time to clear out unwanted pamphlets and tidy up my workstation. Took some brochures regarding tour locations and information packages previously to plan for my upcoming trip. At least a major part of the lodging is settled currently, so time to clear out the unnecessarily papers bit by bit. Off you go to the office recycle bin!

Smoking Kills
[2015/03/07]

BG Info: Don't start smoking. It will not do you good. I don't smoke, and I hate people who smoke in front of me. However, I have no idea why I find packets of cigarettes lying around. In 4 months, this is the third packet of cigarettes I found on the streets. It is newly opened with 17 sticks inside. The first packet I found had 5 sticks, while the second packet I found was a brand new packet, unopened. After all, I just give away to people who wants to die earlier. I don't need cigarettes. So, who wants this packet?

Pepper from Softbank
[2015/03/08]

BG Info: Pepper is the robot from Softbank. Since its launch, there had been much hype about how smart it is. You can actually talk to it, and it will give you quite witty responses. I think it is their success for this particular robot. Now there is quite a few brands collaborating for Pepper to appear in their advertisement and commercials.

Shortlived Happiness
[2015/03/09]

BG Info: Sakura normally blooms for a short period of time. You will only be able to capture the beauty for a very short period of time. Flowers bloom as they go, once the blooming starts, those nearby will catch the "wind" and start blooming too. But all these will go as quickly as they come. 所谓,来匆匆去匆匆。

Daily Reads
[2015/03/10]

BG Info: In the office internal lobby, they have the daily newspapers and monthly magazines for grabs. Inside these magazines include coupons for activities and promotional events going on currently. There is always a folder there listing the lunch menu provided by the building. On the first floor, there is a prepacked Bento store which people just go and grab any amount they like. The price is fixed. So, to understand what you will be eating, they provide detailed information in this menu listing, so you can decide if you want Bento for lunch or any other alternatives.
