may not be a bad idea to start a thread collecting all the tall tales told by cam shops?

just had someone bought close-up filters and being told that close-up filters are priced base on their power, so a +1 = $19.50 and a +4 = 4×$19.50

Yah, Thank you uncle choy for publicising for me!

It's really an experience and worse still another shop in conspiracy also quoted me around the same price which makes me think that I am not being conned!

Anyway, do they always gather at SEED to go and buy stuff? Should do that together so that no one will get conned again.

Well,

So far I buy items from those reputed shop even if I have to pay a little bit more. I am more concern on the quality of the goods and the saleman's attitude.

Maybe I am more a lazy guy when come to compare price. ;)

ok can i get this remote for S$9?

so....how were you conned?

shucks...got one ML-L1 for 15 bucks at PK at adelphi....that is almost 60% above the lowest. The owner sounds like a trusty guy...now I know....he actually quoted 18 at first...which is double the price.....big con man. Wonder now if the lens I got from him is also over inflated.

That is one shop I will never ever visit, again.

selling something more expensive does not make 1 a con man, at least not in this situation, even at 100% more expensive it is only about 9$, in a business point of view, that's isn't an obscene profit margin.

P.S I've never bought anything from that shop, just trying to take a middle ground here.

cheers

Obviously if something can be sold at $9, there is already a margin in place, now, to add 100% onto the price, is trully excessive. You would wonder how much the goods were brought in at in the first place...... a dollar a piece?

As consumer, we should not feel that since the absolute amount is small, then it is alright for the seller to get a hefty margin in percentage terms.

To me trust is a very important consideration when I buy things. I have regular suppliers in my capacities to order equipments and materials for the company I work for, and they understand the importance of integrity. Obviously, the suppliers/sellers are not into this for charity, but to indulge in profiteering and/or imposing unusually high % in profit margin will not get them far in the long term. Unfortunately, there are many businesses which only focus on short term gains. Needless to say once I realize it, that would be the last time I would to take any advice or recommendation from such individuals.

Just my view, but if one feel that it is ok for seller to make high % margin if the absolute is just a few dollars, then so be it....as for me I will stay away from such dealers, especially when I shop for more expensive items. So guess I should stick with the regular shops......

sorry no offence, rueyloon, I am not angry or anything with ur comments, just that words...in the form of writing, is devoid of any indication of the disposition of the author..... I welcome alternative point of views...cheers

like someone said earlier, after buying why bother to ask?

at least you know what's going on before blindly going to the same shop again.
