To me, this GP version is good enough already ;)

The GP's is essentially a K10D with special markings.
This one is actually a K10D in a k1000 shell...
I know I said this a few times in previous threads but here goes again...woowee! ;)

Shriro will be there, along with the K10D Grand Prix LE and the two DA* zoom lenses :D

Good to hear that. I still remember previously when Shriro first took over, they were at a show also and even have show times where models holding different Pentax cameras modeling.:)

ok thanks. so its shriro themselves and not by other retail shops.

and the trick is to buy at the last day??? i'm a comex NOOB.

There are 2 strategies :

1. Go on first day when it is no that crowded (weekday). Decide what you want. Pop by on last day in the evening to buy it. Do NOT browse on last day because it is too crowded! Risk is they may run out of stock but seriously, these people want to sell their stuff, so usually they will ensure there is more stock than expected demand.

2. If the guy is friendly and talkative, cho cho him to give you the last day discount saying you are not free to come on Sunday and you are sure there are special offers. That's what I did and after checking with his manager, they obliged! But as it is shriro, price remain unchanged (sigh) but you get better free gifts. For Pentax, do not expect the same level of gifts as C and N because they are overpriced whereas pentax stuff tend to be near the cost levels already.

Your strategy won't work. Quantities of the K10DGPLE are limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide. How many sets do you think Shriro can get their hands on for Singapore? Do you honestly think there will be any left on Sunday? Fat hope. And all the nice serial numbered sets would have been snapped up... :bsmilie:

That is very true :) I know we only got less than 20 sets here in SG ...

Go on the first day and grab it before it's gone ;)

Yes good looks is one thing but the collectible market for cameras is all about RARITY.

There were times in the past that where I was prepared to fork out plenty of $$$ for some of the limited edition cameras but just couldn't get hold of them. Naturally my priorities are different now.

Having seen quite a number of limited edition cameras of various makes in the past, so long as the brand doesn't become obsolete (eg. Konica Minolta or Contax); the production run is kept small and the model is popular, it's value will definitely appreciate upwards.

C'mon we're talking about Pentax's current flagship model here and the fact it has won so many accolades. It is a proven camera. The K10GPSE will sell, for a lot of money years from now. Kudos to Pentax for keeping the price fairly low and the production run large enough for consumers a chance to get their hands on one.

Pentaxians, if some of you are in two minds and struggling whether to buy or not, maybe I can give this tip. If you're looking to buy a camera to use and you're counting your pennies, just stick to a regular K10D. Your decision would be based on functionality. If you want to stand out and have something different and which will likely hold its long term value or appreciate in value, buy the K10D GPSE. Who knows, it might follow the example of the Leica MP... (don't know what camera that is? Google it!)

but if I buy it i'm gonna use it and not keep it in a display cabinet. Will the value still be there when I need to sell it eg 10k shots. :dunno::bsmilie:

All things being equal, a used K10D GPSE should fetch more than a used K10D with the same mileage. The K10D is a pro-level camera, 10k shutter count is nothing.

But at the rate of digital obsolescence, most of us will probably buy another camera 3 years down the road... Which leads me to the weird thinking of some newbies buying hand me down and discontinued models when they can buy new Pentax DSLRs at roughly the same price.
