JVC Everio series - Super LoLux

Hi there,

it mentioned in this youtube that the latest JVE Everio series has Super Lolux "power"
Super LoLux In 2010 JVC Everio Camcorders - YouTube

In page 3 of this brochure they claimed that you can have clear images in indoor and dark situation.
http://www.jvc-me.com/camcorder/pdfs/2013-Camcorder-Catalog.pdf

The specs also mentioned that it has a 40x optical zoom with F stop of 1.8 to 6.3.

I would like to know whether I can get good recording in concert hall (please assume I have permission to shoot in concert hall) if I zoomed at 40x to capture the singer face ? I suspect the when I do so, the F stop at 40x zoom would probably be at 6.3, thus it will be quite dark.

So, can I say that the assumption made by the brochure is that in order of us to have clear images in indoor and dark situations, we must record the widest angle without any zoom (when the F stop is at 1.8) ?

Lastly, I went to Harvey Norman, Best Denki & Cathay Photos and it looked like nobody sell JVC camcorder anymore. Any idea where to buy this JVC GZ-E100 or JVC-E305. In JVC's S'pore website, it also did not mention where you can buy it & it also did not list their retailer. So, any idea where to buy these video cameras in S'pore (without resorting to purchase online) ?

Thank you.

Mustafa and Audio House sells JVC camcorders. Most concerts are very well lit by stage lights. It is very possible to get usable footage at the long end of a camcorder zoom as many event videographers could testify.

Thanks bamboo,

I went to Audio House at Liang Court and there is no JVC camcorder. Asked the salesman & he told me don't have JVC.

Then went to Mustafa, they only have the old series E-205.

The new JVC GZ-E100 and GZ-E305 think must buy online liao ...

Thanks

Challenger at Funan is selling JVC GZ-E100 at an attractive price of $299 only! They have a large stock of the camera as I saw stacks of boxes behind their sale counter a month or 2 ago when I visited their store. I can see that they are aggresively promoting the camera when one of the salesman called out to me to try the camera.

I tried the camera, and I must say I am impressed with the optical stabilization at telezoom range. Normally, you don't get optical stabilization at this low price. Although this is a basic camcorder, I think it is worthwhile to buy it. It is full HD, with a Back side illuminated sensor for low light. It even has a time-lapse video mode!

Currently, I don't think any camcorder can match this price.

Thanks John, forget to check when I was at Funan this afternoon.

Anyway, do you know what is the difference between the 100 and 305 model ? Does the difference in price justify the extra functions ?

Thanks

Mustafa finally brings in stock.

Bought the E-100 today at Mustafa at SGD299 which comes with free additional battery & bag & 8GB SD card.

Where to find video camera at such a cheap price ?

Locally? Tough.

Amazon maybe. JVC GZ-E200 @ US$150 (approx S$190) (Amazon.com: JVC GZ-E200BUS1080p HD Everio Digital Video CameraVideo Camera with 3-Inch LCD Screen (Black): Camera & Photo).
Viable if you have relatives/friends there who can help you bring back. +S$50 or so if using freight forwarder...

Think the E-200 is an old model.

JVC announced 8 new models in Jan 2013 and E-200 is not one of them

True! Looks like mid-2012 model. It's actually 'fake' HD. :thumbsd:

E-100's @ US$199 on B&H so S$299's not too bad.

Why u say it is "fake" HD ? The manual say it can be selected to record at 1920 x 1080

F stop at 1.8 quite good leh. Even the lens for Sony VG30 Fstop is only 3.5 - 6.3

Some for for S$299 can get additional free battery & bag & 8gb SD card :)

Bro, post some reels please. Would like to know the quality of the video, any short reviews would also be appreciated.

Hi bro astrocom,

The reason i bought this JVC because I thought at $299, it is cheaper than the lens that I am eyeing for my VG30. No more spare money liao....Hahaha

Anyway, the real reason is also bcos I need the 40x optical zoom so that I can zoom in on the face of the actor in the play. The jvc advertise as if the lolux is a super video camera in low light. Hahaha

Anyway, I don't think I have the school's permission to release their footage so I shall give my review in words.

I must say at $299, it is worth it. Amazing, for $299, you can do a time-lapse !! Think those interested better buy before the price increases to $380. $299 is special offer whilst stock last.

Although, the video quality from the VG30 is better, VG30 cannot do the 40x optical zoom. Nevertheless, depending on how petty you are, for me quality from the JVCE-100 is still acceptable ... Comparing the zoom at same level (say 11x optical max the VG30 goes on the the lens that comes with it), at low light, the VG-30 is still better. But I must emphasized that the JVC is good too. How do I put it, let's lest say the VG-30 is sipeh good while the JVC E-100 is very good. :)

Furthermore, the JVC is so light. But the battery for the JVC cannot last that long as compared to VG30. But at $299, it also comes with a spare battery ... where to find so cheap ? Some more the JVC comes with a Fstop of 1.8 to 6.3 where as the VG-30 is only 3.5 to 6.3.

So my conclusion is you need both the VG30 and the JVC E-100. Just buy the JVC E-100 and I am sure your $299 is well spent !

Cheers

NB: I am not a salesman for JVC & neither have I any vested interest in JVC. Hahaha

I checked out the E-100 at Mustafa today and the 40X zoom is really amazing. MY personal opinion is that the zoom control is definitely more smooth than even the NX70. The auto-focus during zooming is fantastic. Mustafa salesman told me there is no extra battery. The JVC promoter was not there so I can't confirm if the extra battery offer has ended or not.
