makes a good halo......

yah baru liat, gue mo balik indo ntar kalo mau bisa titip ama gue, PM gue deh kalo mo beli batere nya dari ebay biar dikirim ke singapore, ntar bulan depan kalo gue balik gue kirimin ke elu.

have u tried weighing ur setup?
looks heavy..

i tried one of the this setup before.
you have to really get very near to the subject in order to see the 'ring' catchlights in their eyes.

fact is, it's good for macro, but not good enough for portraiture.
still, nothing beats a real ring flash.

cr 123 is the same battery as surefire torches which i have IIRC.
you can get these in sgp cheap.i get my batts from mustafa though parking is an a s s.

have fun with the new toy and share the pics with us!

Not to splash you cold water... but for this kind of setup, I would prefer the 'real' ring flash anytime.

There are many portable ones designed for outdoor use. The weight might weigh less than your setup with 8pcs of R200s and much lesser attachment parts to carry ard. Not to mention the total watt output from a ring-flash strobe is much higher than your setup using R200s. We are talking about 400W-650W depends on the model you buy.

The Nikon R200s will be good if you use only 2pcs or 3pcs for some macro or simple head portrait shoots. But if you want to bright full body, sadly to say even you mounted 8pcs as of current, it is not good enough for full body. :(

BTW if you're looking for rechargable CR123 batteries, there is a shop in Funan 4th floor selling them. Can't remember the name but it is just next to the shop named EDPOL that sells Fiel-Farma leather cases. They are hang on the piller in front of the cashier counter. Check them out! ;)

Yes, there are some shops that can sell CR123 ~$0.80-$1 each piece. BTW which Surefire are you using? We'll discuss offline... I'm recently also hook on surefire stuff. :P

sky kor kor, pm u already.;)

Sorry to say that.....

For macro, it is not the more flash the merry......
If you want a even lighting, ring flash is cheaper and lighter, it still can produce the same result.

However, this setup is good for capturing flight shots.

In this case the novelty too :bsmilie:

Hi digitalxd1 show us something that harnesses the potential of ur powertoys!

hehehee
Just got back from taking picture of my friend using this ring lite set-up
Cemera D3
Lens Zeiss Plannar T* 85/1.4

Niabatik1internet.jpg

This ringlite has more power than what i expected and the light is very soft! I like it.
Look at the example above.
The righlite can fill-in the shadow area, without overexposing the white area :)

another example
this little girl

AnakKecilMarinaRingflash.jpg

I placed the ringflash on her left side (about 3 - 4 meters away from her)
the result is very pleasing (almost look like a lighting from a bog softbox)
anyway, I'm really happy with the performance

Even my friend got really excited and amazed by it >_<
look at his expression

I will post more picture latter ^_^

i'm no expert in outdoor portraits, but wouldn't a SB-800 / 600 / 400 with a diffuser as a fill-in either mounted or remote have been sufficient for this job? not that i'm disagreeing that the results are pleasing... just would imagine that the big sell of this set up is in close-ups in macro or portraits.

... also, nice colours...

By first impression, it appears better to use numerous smaller light sources (SB-R200s)to illuminate the subject than to use one/two sources (SB-600/800s) adjusted to the same power.
I reckon smaller output by numerous such flashes diffuse the light better than a single source (even w an omnibounce).

let's see if someone would setup control test shots.... for now i think the R200s do it better, and without harsh shadows.

have u tried weighing ur setup?
looks heavy..

I remembered I read somewhere that the SX-1 holder is meant to take the weight of not more than 4 SB-R200s when mounted on camera.

Here it is.. http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/ProductDetail.page?pid=4803

scroll somewhere down... said:
SX-1 master attachment ring accommodates up to eight SB-R200 Speedlights (off camera) and up to four (on camera).

I have a problem with this set up...
I can't find anyone that sell Rechargeable CR 123 battery In Indonesia...!! >_<
Andree

I don't know if join ID-photographer maillist, as your name sounds familiar.
There is one member that can hook you up with R-CR123.
If not, PM me and I'll find out who as ID-flashlight mailist uses a lot a RCR123 for our high powered torch .

btw .. do read the lens manual first before mounting that massive strobe.
I remember when reading my R1C1 manual, the max you can put in front of a lens is 6 R200 before the lens alignment went south [altough its a Zeiss :) ]

There is a picture of a lady holding ( I think with 8 SBR200s ) attached to the SX-1 in the R1C1 manual :bsmilie:
bad influence

Ryan

as lsisaxon typed " when mounted on camera " hope the lady is not a camera :)

Hi B18,
Yes, i did read the manual book :)
according to the manual book, the max Sb R200 that i can attact on the lens is 4 units.
however, It's not fun if I only use 4 unit ;p
I need 8 units of Sb-R200 to create a ring lite ^^
So far, I had no problem with my Zeiss 85/1.4 and Zeiss 100/2 (BTW, the body of the lens is 100% metal, so I assumed it's strong enough hahahhaa)

Sent you a PM already :)
