Wah someone cannot tahan already, want to start fire because of a stupid grip issue?
Kekeke
Grip it anyway you want la.

No lah, just airing some of my views, not trying to be a troll or flamebait :embrass: Anyway, whatever works for you....

erm to bring the discussion back on track, I know a few female photographers, and they are less likely to equipment measurabate than males (ie me). Males do have more of a tendency to be slightly obsessed with equipment (think fast cars, hifi, electronics, etc)...

Dude, it is not about the grip and who started what. Stop trying to change topics lah. It is how you phrase your posts and belittle others.

Grow up. Be a little more humble will not hurt.

This weeks' topic is-- is photography a male hobby only?

my take on this matter is...

photograhy is NOT a male hobby.. just male DOMINATED.. :)

just like alot of other hobbies and sports out there... though feminists might disagree, they might go on and on about equality, blah blah blah...

but let's admit it, girls...

sure, between ourselves, we know a couple of female photographers... but as compared to the number of male photographers out there.. we lose them HANDS down...

i'm not comparing skills and abilities here... just purely the numbers... ;)

hmm... sadly, YES.. i've heard of cases.. women throwing their tempers.. whining.. etc etc..

IMHO, it is one thing ladies should NOT learn or do... it is TOTALLY unreasonable!

those ladies who have this plan of asking her man to give up photography, ask yoruselves...it's the same thing, can your man influence/coerce YOU to give up shopping?

Allow me to relate this from Xie Mo, Hasselbald Master xxxx. He related about a friend back home years ago. His friend was buying photographic equipment from time to time and spending his weekends outdoor doing photography. His wife felt that her husband was spending money like throwing money down the drain. Her complaints became nags. Eventually, their relationship became strained. His friend sought advice. He decided to heed the advice given to him.

This was what he did.
He stopped buying photographic equipment. He spent his weekends at home. Some time later, he acquired a new hobby, i.e. visiting casinos weekly. This time round, he is really throwing money down the drain. After a while, his wife pleaded with him to stop gambling and allow him to resume his former hobby, photography.

So, spending money and time on photography is not so bad after all. Women, take note.

LOL. This cracks me up. Photos are good :D

This is a similar question to ask: Is modeling a female "hobby"?

When I go out with a female, by default I am the photographer and she is the model... :D

no lah.. female DOMINATED, yes! :bsmilie:

you have to be careful with words here... if it's a female hobby, means females ONLY... and vice versa.. :nono:

your female friends must be really confident to let you take photos... my friends are either not confident or too paiseh... that includes myself... :)

that is why Fred hardly gets photos of me... except for candid shots though! ;p

the danger is that the child will not have the benefit of make-over and will expose the parent for the "ugly" person that he/she used to be (refer to story in today's papers about the 30 year old chinese woman who was *exposed* by her ugly baby and had to compensate her husband for his "wasted youth").

Once upon a time there was a young career photographer. He was talented, but he didn't have much money.

Nevertheless, because it was the mid-'60's and he was reacting to his depression/war era parents, he thought that money wasn't important — art always came first.

Consequently while as his peers, who were developing their careers alongside his, bought Nikon Fs, M series Leicas and Hasselblads, our hero had to satisfy himself using Pentax and Minoltas along with inexpensive third-party lenses from Tamron, Tokina and the like. He reveled in the simplicity of his ways.

And, our hero succeeded. His photographs, made with cheap cameras on even cheaper lenses were widely published in major magazines, his better work was collected by major galleries and national institutions, and he was able to make a decent living as a freelance photojournalist.

Meanwhile his colleagues and competitors continued to tease and distress him about his not using "the best".

Then the illness struck. He started to believe that they might be right. As quickly as he could he started to buy top rated cameras and lenses. Nikons, Leicas, Contax, Hasselblads — all the top brands. His family's life-style suffered as he plowed more and more money into the finest camera bodies and lenses available. Finally his career as well as his personal life were in jeopardy as his spending exceeded his financial abilities.

Years later he reviewed this period of his life. With hindsight he saw how in fact his best work from that time of his life was done when he was poor and using so-called "amateur equipment". There was a freshness and a clarity of vision that became veiled by the later obsession with lines/mm, titanium bodies, exotic lens elements and the like.

Today he can afford to buy whatever equipment he wishes — and he does, and enjoys every one of them. But, he always remembers the lesson that difficult period of his life taught him.
