either you misplaced it,

or it is indeed grey set, don't think police can do anything.

in the first place did you do research before buying.

Did you keep the receipt? I cannot understand why you had left what you had bought with the shop. What you should do is:

1. get them to return all the items to you, with or without warranty card
2. if the price is very low it may be an export set
3. if they refuse to return the items to you report to the police

Good luck. In future buy only from the more reputable shops and pay a bit more.

eleveninth:I bought 35mm f/1.8 from there before, its local set with warranty card.I did homework, it the cheapest D7000 I found so I bought it.

Frankly speaking, it could be just plain over reacting from your part. Why not wait till tomorrow for them to sort it out with Nikon Singapore, since they already said it should have a warranty card and not a grey set. There is no point getting so angry over such small matter. They need to keep the items probably because they need to have the serial number, and perhaps exchange with Nikon depending on how Nikon wants to handle this. If after several days and they can't provide a solution then perhaps it's time to get angry. But instead of getting angry, a better way is that you handle it yourself by bringing the set and receipt to Nikon, tell them you can't find the warranty card in the box, and at the same time ask them to verify it is indeed a local set. If it is indeed a local set, with the receipt Nikon should be able to register your warranty on the spot. Reporting to police will do you nothing unless they don't return you the items. Reporting to CASE will help if they can't sort it out, but ONLY if they said it's local set but turned out grey.

I think the first thing u should do is go to the shop tomorrow and get back your d7000. I don't know why they refused to return to you, and it seems that there is no black and white that they holding on to your camera...if they decide to play punk and deny they ever took your camera, that's it.

Get back your Cam, then make a police report, return to the shop and show them the report, hope that will put pressure on them to resolve the issue properly

Get back your Cam, then make a police report, return to the shop and show them the report, hope that will put pressure on them to resolve the issue properly

Don't you mind to explain how will police help in this scenario?

Did you ask if it is a local set in the first place? I know that some grey sets of lens (not camera as I have never known anyone who bought a grey set camera) come without the warranty card as the exporter probably wasn't permitted to sell outside of his country, especially if it is a business to business deal.

The grey set price of Nikon D7000 is about S$1508 in cash including GST, fyi.
Reporting to the police will not help anyone because the shop would still not be able to produce the warranty card and there is no case of cheating. A lost warranty card admitted but the shop does not amount to cheating especially if they did not promise the buyer and also, the buyer already checked the contents before leaving.

Best is that you quickly collect back what you have paid for. Try to register the warranty online from whatever info outside the box and call Nikon Singapore if you cannot register and tell them whatever info they require.

Hope you will not over-react. Should it be really a grey set, asking the store to guarantee it is of no use when they would not even want to exchange that camera in the first place. It may seemed radical, ask to buy the lens you always wanted at a rock bottom price as compensation.
All the best to you, Gecko365!

Technogadget, a local online commercial advertiser with clubsnap is selling the Nikon 7000D at S$1449 including delivery. Its web clearly says that their products are grey sets and does not come with the warranty card but they will give a 12mth warranty.

What I hope TS Gecko365 will understand is that he is not really getting a bad deal (just some bad attitude from the store and unless the store told him his comes with local guarantee).
Between $1550 and $1449, it is about $100 which means that the set is unlikely to be a local set as the difference is not significant enough for the store to want to import it themselves. Most consumers would not save $100 for peace of mind for an item of such value.

For $1449, it comes without any frills nor can one feel or test it and also one has to pay upfront first to have it delivered. So take this difference as what you have paid for,for a grey set. It would be more worrying if you purchase a local set with warranty that is significantly below the market price, it means it could have been used, dropped or have some malfunction.

Btw I do not work in any photo-related company. Just trying to help TS to have an understanding of what the situation could realistically be.

IMHO, you should not leave your entire camera set with them because YOU HAD ALREADY PAID IN FULL FOR IT.
The way the salesman replied you already is a RED flag about that shop.

Don't listen to their nonsense of having to leave the camera with them because of the missing warranty card.
Best to go with 2 of your friends. These salesman are well trained in the art of deception and intimidation.

If they refused to return the camera set to you with or without the warranty card, call the police !
You have the shop's purchase receipt. Don't worry. Stand your ground.
The police will be on your side. You paid for the item and the shop refused to give you the purchased item.

Most probably it is a grey or export set or worst, it is a second hand set which they are trying to sell to you as new.
Hope you have taken down the serial number of the camera. I am afraid they may switch a worst camera in place of your first one.

Hope everything turns out OK for you.

You may pursue with CASE for the warranty issue if it is not resolved. You should have bought from reputable shops instead of this shop.

Something's wrong with that shop's ethics. How can you hold possessions of a customer by force and even if everything turns out ok later, it's still plain bad service. I seriously think you are not overreacting. Pls update us the outcome. When I bought a battery grip from John 3:16 I also discover warranty card missing. I told them about it and they give me a total new set with no questions asked, plus apologized for inconvenience.

For all those who keeps thinking that CASE can help, you're so wrong. First you need to PAY for membership with CASE before you can even complain.

And CASE probably can't do much too.

Thanks to catchlights for organising the post. Sure made it easier to read.

gecko, i think ziploc has a point. give the shop a couple of days to sort it out with Nikon. If it were a grey set, he could have told you it's a grey set. After all, it's not illegal and you have already paid, unless he told you explicitly it's local set, or you have reasonable grounds to believe so.

If it turned out that he really cheated you, go to small claims and try to obtain an order..

All being said, it's really bad service from the shop. they could have exchanged a set and sort it out with Nikon later, unless it's pre-agreed with Nikon. Just OT to bring an example, if you buy a phone and it's spoilt when you test it, the telcos will require you to bring the phone back to the manufacturer. they won't exchange it for you.

All the best to your warranty card. i feel for you...

Ziploc: Its not correct to do this.
They might have "ILLEGAL" printing for warranty cards. This might be the reason why they wanna keep it cos their middle man screwed things up and now they have to find ways to cover up.

If it was you I don't think you let it pass. SGD-$1550 is not small matter.
I cannot wait for afew days, if today after work I go shop and no camera I just call police on the spot.

They just have 101 excuses to CHEAT you, some shops are just "Masters of Deception" cos they have been doing the trade for so long that they know the loopholes.
They won't even let me have it back, I wanna go Nikon myself but the guy just say NO NO and he tell me don't teach him how to to things, he almost bang table. Bloodly screwed up attitude.

Berkins:I be going to collect camera after work.

Snapdiner:They said its a local set. I took the serial number ytd outside the box and registered it online, the website and email from Nikon-sg says its a local set with warranty period. But it "USELESS" as Nikon said they need BOTH warranty card and original receipt for service.

Rocky78:I went with my friend, me and my friend keep on telling and ask why why why cannot he just refuse to change new set or refund.I tell him I bring to Nikon myself, he just raise his voice and say NO NO!! He say don't teach me what to do!! If today go shop no camera I just raise my voice and call 999 on the spot, I will not freaking wait. Wait until when?! I really left with no choice.

very hard to see what you type le.

anyway missed the info that they took back the cam. you should have done something there and then already.

Sorry. I type with my BB, look ok inside BB but not sure why forum like this.

I just call Nikon sg, they told me its not their shipment as they have no records of the serial number.

Nikon club can register but the manager at Nikon told me that its like this, she told me its an export set.
I be going down to get warranty or refund.

so they sell you a grey set? no wonder its so cheap....

then like that should be grey set already..

dun think u can get warranty for it.. unless of course they say shop warranty and if you trust them.

Honestly i think not much people have bought from this shop, there are only a few trust worthy shops around..

anyway if a deals too good should be more cautious..

eleveninth: shop say its sg set, Nikon say its export as the serial number cannot be trace.
ytd the guy raise his voice at me and my friend, tonite i go back i sure do that same thing.
