A Nation of Bounty Hunters? No thank you. This might just turn into someting worst or brings out something bad out of people. A lynching mob mentality? Wrongly capture due to mistaken identity or worst..."hit-first-ask-question-later". Given the hype and how he is made out to be really dangerous... I would suspect if he is spotted or someone that looks like him will get hit first then be approached and questioned or verify if he is the one or not.

I personally feel everyone not part of the police or army should leave capturing this to the professional. And that is speaking as some one who did his NS in the Police force.

Amen to that - finally a voice of reason.

If a reward, which is nothing else than a bribe in diguise, makes a noticeable difference to whether people act responsibly, there is something very seriously wrong with the population (read: people are corrupt). In the long run, widespread attitudes of this kind damage a nation/society more profoundly than a tiny number of terrorists could.

Just heard on the radio, a few ordinary citizens are putting up money reward for information about Mas Selamat whereabout.

Our local enforcement agencies still zero reward for information about Mas Selamat.

Well I think someone have said this before "we should let the private sector take the lead" guess they're just keeping their word :(

But just today...it took my boss 3 hours jammed just at the causeway area to get from Singapore to JB.

Great huh? This guy we not even sure he would use the causeway to escape but last time the murderer of the China National's young daugther just stroll across via the causeway into Malaysia and walked away. Anyone recall that boo boo?
I think that's why they are being so thorough with the checks... last time kanna scolding for letting someone escape, this time they try to make sure no repeat...

Of course lar, other than just the guy you mentioned, they also let our dear NKF Chairman Mr and Mrs Richard Yong go through also so this time must be super on the ball mah.

So many whys......
We will never know the truth.

Remember to file your income tax hor.

Aiyo...don't even get me started on that. I sense so much opportunistic "slight of hand" milking this situation for free publicity then actually wanting to help.

And again..what are they really promoting by doing so? (apart from self promotion through the press) As I said...nation of bounty hunters? I hope we don't see no irony out of all this so call public "spirited" actions. I hate to see in the papers person(s) got assaulted or illegal restraint or in the case someone actually met this fugitive and got injured or worst when struggling to nab him to collect the reward. And as you know..it can turn ugly and create racial tension as this action will single out one of our nation's core race and put them under the microscope...again. Here is where I think we can and should do our part to not let happen.

This in a way further ticks me off with the authority not even considering this part and discouraging it. Is this some kind of distraction they want to take the heat and focus off of them for allowing this to happen in the first place. I really hope not.

btw how much is Osama's head cost now not sure how much can Selamat fetch

he is so gonna rape all the girls that he needs to be caught immediately

The issue is not how much he is worth; haven't you been keeping up with the thread? The last thing we want is to be labelled a country of Bounty Hunters.

Kastari managed to escape after asking to go to the toilet during a family visit, security officials said.

DC to implement new policy for high level detainess: No toilet break!
Btw, how come he gets toilet breaks? I thot these pple usually have toilets in their cells, so they dun have to leave their cells? Yah, so it was during family visit. You wanna go toilet, too bad la... go back to your cell and pee and end of visit. You so kiang, can cheong n become JI leader, a bit of pee cannot tahan ah? Or DC food not suitable for your stomach?

Why our DC security pple don't watch TV? TV always show the criminals during visits, pretend wanna go toilet then try to break away from prison. Wah liaooo... even JI leader know how to watch TV to learn some cheap tricks... which has proven to be more than enough for our 'tight security.' Btw, nobody guard the toilet wan meh? Nobody escorted him to toilet? You mean that high profile terrorist doesn't have at least two guards with him wherever he goes? Wahhh... seems very free in DC wan... why escape? Yah, maybe he had craving for Changi Village Nasi Lemak.

I find this explanation very unconvincing la. The security officials who gave this report didn't even bother to use their creativity (if any) to cook up a refreshing, somewhat convincing story. Just take the usual plot from HK movie. Truly disappointing lah. First you let this impt terrorist escape, then you give lame reason. Oii... wake up la! Defence budget not enough to buy kopi is it? Terrorist escape already... roaming free... still haven't wake up?!!

And this...
selamatspotter.jpg

Is the picture they should be posting around. Not those 2 normal-looking shaved and unshaved photos. They think everyone is as uncreative as them. If you want to kill dozens of trees to pay for your mistake, at least make their deaths worth it, OK?!! Because the world is getting hotter, even without bombs exploding. Ahem.

A popular Singaporean blogger who has previously irked the government with attacks on high living costs said the city-state need not worry about losing cabinet ministers.
"They won't be asked to resign or even take a pay cut," wrote the blogger known as Mr. Brown.

"We are not like those free-wheeling and chaotic governments from Western democracies that make their leaders accountable for every little thing."

Yeah thanks, Mr Brown. Love your sarcasm. This is also a statement of truth that we can believe in, unlike all the stuff they're spinning.

weekend is coming... still no where in sight.

i guess he has fled the country.

In the first place.. he shouldn't even be given a family visit..

Before you know it, we'll have a puzzle book called "Where's Mas Selamat?"

In the first place.. he shouldn't even be given a family visit..

he can lah.. just use video conferencing loh !

he is a person with a terrorist profile, should be kept in a maximum security prison undisclosed to public.. all means of contact should be done so thru video conferencing.

I don't understand why he is even allowed interaction with anyone on the outside. You can't keep a man with dangerous plans locked up but let him talk to people outside. He can just pass instructions out to his family, to carry on from there, right? :dunno:

No lah.. They do not deserve any Human Rights Treatment.

These idiots should be locked up in the dark room day in day out.

I hope you will have a change of mind once you get detained without legal recourse. Your declared disregard of human rights is not any better than terrorists' disregard for their declared enemies.

The news seem to die down leh! Weird?!

A BANGLADESHI clerk with a diseased leg triggered a major security alert in Singapore where police are hunting for a suspected extremist leader, a newspaper here reported on Thursday.

Mohamad Iqbal Hussain, 28, was limping to a canteen near a shopping mall in the city-state when an alert individual called police, according to The New Paper.

The reason: Mas Selamat bin Kastari, the alleged Singapore head of regional terror group Jemaah Islamiah, also has a limp - and is still in hiding after escaping from detention more than a week ago.

Police cars duly swooped on the housing bloc where Mr Iqbal has been staying with a friend, and officers carried out a house-to-house search.

They left after briefly interviewing him, the newspaper added.

It turned out that Mr Iqbal, who works as a clerk in Dhaka, is in Singapore to seek medical treatment for a disease affecting his right leg and which causes him to walk with a limp.

'I was unwaware of what was happening,' he was quoted as saying.

'I did not know there was this dangerous terrorist on the loose. I don't speak English so I did not pay attention to the posters.'

Posters bearing Mas Selamat's face have been plastered all over Singapore, and state that the fugitive walks with a limp from his left leg.

Police have urged the public to call a telephone hotline if they see anyone walking or running with the distinctive limp.

Mas Selamat, who was arrested in neighbouring Indonesia in 2006 and turned over to Singapore, is accused of plotting to hijack a plane in order to crash it into Singapore's Changi airport in 2001.

He managed to escape after asking to go to the toilet during a family visit, security officials said. -- AFP
