JB trip with Nikon D700

IMHO, it doesn't matter whether you are lugging a D80, D90, D200, D300 or D700 which look similar size to the thief also, who is likely not into photography.

Just be careful and avoid the quiet place. Since you are traveling in a group, it would be quite safe to be frank... But remember to grip your firmly and stay alert.

If you are in just for shopping, i suggest a PnS will do, SLR will weight u down should u decide to go for a massage etc later. However, if u r going in to take pictures, than just bring along the D700, after all, cameras are use to take pictures.

If you are that unlucky, you will get robbed anywhere, not just JB

I work in Spore..
and I go home every night to JB, my home..
and I always go around town wt my D700 too..
walked to pasar malam wt the nice food stalls...
took lots of pics at the morning wet market on sundays..
and I have never even thot of being robbed...

risk is always there, just make use of your common sense and you will enjoy JB, the food and the shopping...

ps.. buy a good cam and then stress on where to take it.. aiii robbed, buy new one lorr.. :bsmilie:

Other than snatch thieves, it also depends on what you are taking. If you're aiming conspicuously at some sensitive locations (like certain key installations and coastlines), you'll likely be watched.

Just came back from JB...shopped at city square then sang K and ate dinner...Good thing I didn't bring along a camera...Was freaking hot and had a long day. Nothing worth snapping so far....

I have brought my DSLR when i went for karting previously in JB. Other than that, :nono: not worth the risk, unless you are in a car. Malacca and KL still ok.

I remember 1 clubsnapper told me one of his buddy dslr was stolen in local coffee shop during
supper time,later police officer found it inside the ice box.

In Italy, you will get robbed in bright daylight at crowded tourist attraction. Worst than JB. They just dun care about the crowd. They snatched and they ran.

I doubt one would wanna take the trouble to do so on short trips to KL when you simply take a bus to cross the border....But probably longer trips around the world warrants a need for travel insurance....

Sad to say, JB's tarnished image haunts the hearts of many and sometimes, its probably better to safe then sorry....I'm a Malaysian myself although I've been born and raised here for most of my life but I have to say, JB feels scary especially Holiday Plaza area....
