so this is different from the Panasonic Lx 1/2 series whereby the wide angle works only for 16:9 shots?
then like that cannot print standard sized photos am i right?

damn, i just bought this from Alan Photo today for $2.75 more! haha. the quote was $575, gst included. same free gifts cos from Canon. but i got a free screen protector as well! ;p

Hi guys, so this price doesn't include an extra battery? And only comes with a 2gb SD card? Comparing what they give against what Bargaincity is offering fr $639 incl GST. Thanks!

i bought extra battery for additional 25 bucks. so my total was $600. dunno how much a 1gb SD card would cost. but i figure it shld be slightly cheaper than $39 lah.. can ring the shops to ask.
so u got an overall better deal!

Where did you see the 800IS sold for $399? Thot it has been discontinued...
To others: Anyone of you chose the 800IS over the 850IS? I'm considering a compact cam to bring around. Read the reviews and it seems because of the higher number of megapixels squeezed into the same sized sensors, the image quality of the 850 is actually not as good as to the 800IS. Can anyone confirm this plz? Thanks. In fact, I think Digic III tries to sacrifice details to reduce noise (without much success) which is a shame.
Actually, for a compact, I find there is no need to go beyond 6MP. The face detection thingy is gimmicky except for the most beginner of photographers. And from the sample images I saw,images from the 850IS at ISO800 are as grainy as the 800IS'. ISO1600 though available in the 850IS is unusable for most purposes IMHO (super grainy!)
Only the 28mm wide end sounds good...

for me the main attraction is the wide angle...don't really care abt the iso thingy coz wikll rarely take above iso 100

Do you have another compact? It is very much noticable. You dont notice it because you are not comparing against anything else. Compare it with a standard compact. Hold both cameras one on top of the other and look at both screens. You will notice the extra width.

Got my Ixus 850IS from Song Brothers at $590 incl GST. 2GB SD card + digital kit from Canon. Also threw in a screen protector and a fake leather Ixus case for free.
AP quoted $575 but no stock.
Lowest price is Orient Photo at $550 incl GST but no freebies and no warranty (grey set).

Considering to get 850IS too because of the wide angle.
If I am not wrong, LX2 has wide angle too. Any reason of trading Lumix for Ixus ?
I bought because LX2 because it has wide angle and have Manual, Aperture, shuttle mode and good lens. But when I take portraits most of them turn out blur, even I use auto mode also same results.
But when I use canon to take portraits and they have the NEW Face Detection Technology,and confirm that is very good to take portraits the photo turn out sharp and nice.
Hence, my opinion is Canon process technology is better or may be my skill is not good when I use LX2.
