went down to canon during lunchtime to get my extra year's local warranty plus the mystery gift. as what scramblur11 said the mystery gift is a golf umbrella, very big, can leave in office and use when heavy rain

what they did was stamped "extended one year warranty" on both the receipt and warranty card, photostated them and my IC. the guy said they will update their system accordingly. anyway, hope my camera will not spoil at all :bsmilie:

Yupz they just stamp my warranty card and receipt with the "extend 1 yr warranty" stamp...tink shouldn't be a prob liao.... :)

Hopefully no need visit canon anytime soon... :bsmilie:

how come havent receive warranty card? thought it should come together with the camera, inside the box? got 2 portion, one send back canon, the other retain by customer.
The bestcam salesman told me they needed my part of the warranty because they had collected the free gift on my behalf (I didn't have to go down to harbourfront), so I believed him and dutifully filled it up.

daphz,

Like to check with you if the battery that you got from the deal is original?? not 3rd party right??

oic, then bo pian already. probably they did a bulk collection for everybody, save you the trouble to go harbourfront yourself. but even if you insist on going to canon on your own to collect, they also cannot stop you.

then they will mail you back your portion of the warranty card? because i think when you go servicing, they will ask for your warranty card and/or receipt.

how you find the camera so far? i feel that it is good, nice picture and nice body design. so far still surviving with the free 128MB SD and original battery. should be getting bigger SD (>=512MB) and OEM battery later part of the year when i go for tour.

Didn't check. Assume it's original!

The camera is great. I love the size. One problem I had yesterday: I was taking a long shutter photo (1st time) and when it was done recording, the LCD said Memory Card Error! Then all my photos got question mark. It was only after I removed the SD card and insert again that my original pictures appeared. :dunno:

I guess I will also buy a bigger memory card when I travel. Right now, it's serving me ok. Oh and I bought the canon casing. $39 Harvey Norman. Then yesterday saw it at $29 at PK funan. :(

did u format the card b4 u initially used it?..maybe u download all ur remaining pics 1st den do a format just in case...

err thought SRP for case for ixus 30 / 40 is $29 only?...is the case 2 big for your cam?...if so most prob u buy the case for ixus 500/430 instead leh...these 2 is the fatter model....

I'm sure it's the correct case for the ixus 40. fits real well. oh well :(

i didn't do a format. Is that standard practice? Will do so right now. Thanks!

From wat I know, a new memory card usually need to format first to get rid of any potential corrupted data first..... :)

Hi. I'm new to digital camera. I'm planning to buy Ixus 40 too. However, i'm facing difficult of understanding what the normal SD card and the high performance SD card will affect the performance of the camera. Will i face problems with continuous recording at 640x480 at 30fps / Continuous Shooting? Is there any other problems?

By the way, can anyone tell me what is the recommended SD card for a beginner like me?

Thanks. :D

I bought my camera on Dec 30, at BestCam, and they took my warranty card and said will submit to Canon and Canon will mail it back to me. But til now, have not received my warranty card! Think I should be worried?

Bro I think you should go down and question them. Another way is call Canon up give them your s/n and see if this is a local set.

Tat time I call canon ask b4, they say to shoot unlimited movie u would need a high speed 60x SD card..but based on the feedback ard this forum, seem tat 40x is actually enough for unlimited movie liao... continous shooting shouldnt have much prob with a normal speed card (eg 4x speed)....

if u purcharsed ixus 40 by 28feb, u would be given a 128mb card and 7-in-1 bag by canon mah...is good enough for ard 75 shoots in max resolution...but if u wan to use the unlimited movie mode, I would suggest u get a 512mb card...high speed types like the sandisk ultra 2.....should cost ard 100+...suggest u buy together with cam, can try bargain with the sales person.. :)

Hi

just wanna post a note about being careful from buying camera equipment.

some shops will quote you a low price, but will instead swap out the original battery and replace it with a third party one, or sell you a low price but insist that the charger is a separate accessory and you got to pay for it. of course the combined price of the charger plus original package is a higher price.

for free gifts, they could claim to be able to give you on the spot, but may not actually give you the free gift of the same brand that the original manufacturer might promise, for example, swapping a no brand CF card in place of the original Canon given one (which might be a Lexar).

when you find out (usually it's too late) and return to the shop, they will say they have never seen you before.

Definitely no reputable shop i know of will make claims to your portion of the warranty card. I recently helped a fren acquire a Canon ixus 40 from a shop i know and trust, the shop was able to give the free gifts on the spot (i checked the brand) and the shop did not keep my fren's portion of the warranty card, nor did they make any dubious claims to it.

this is not to say, of course that i am implying there is any foul practice with the case mentioned above in this thread. just that it is an unusual practice which i have never experienced.....

there are various tactics to entice you to buy from them, and usually unknowing customers will be enticed by the low price, not realising they are subtly being cheated. Tourists are usually the victims.

I would be very wary if i am quoted an unusually low price. Just be careful!

Shops which I personally feel are reputable and trustworthy are:

John 3:16 at Funan
Cathay Photo at Peninsula or Marina Square
MS Color at AMK
Alan Photo at SimLim Square

Remember, this is entirely a PERSONAL opinion. Take it or leave it :)

The Ixus 40 is a good camera. I would have gotten one myself as a pocketable camera if i were not so enamoured with my other "small and portable" film camera :)

I gave Canon a call regarding my warranty that I didn't receive. Canon said it's on the dealer's side. So I called BestCam, where I bought the Ixus 40 from, and they said the warranty was recently mailed out and I should get it within a couple of days.

Strange thing was, as soon as I started to speak to the salesman and told him I bought a canon ixus camera a few weeks ago, he said "you didn't receive your warranty is it?" Hmmm maybe I'm not the only one who called them. Then in ten minutes, BestCam called me again to ask for my camera serial number. This time, they said the warranty card still with them and they will mail it out tomorrow. :dunno:

aiya tink this type of shops is like tat one...tink once they got the sales, doubt they will care abt after-sales service...tink if u din call them they also wont bother abt sending to u also...

but tink wat Red Dawn say quite true...some shops may just give an inferior free gifts instead...esp those aunties, uncles and foreigners who din know abt the promo.....kana cheated also duno......but wat the brand of the memory card u got? tink the one given by canon is kingston or lexar leh....

I got Lexar 128MB. Am intending to get a 512MB one, you know of any good place to get? Or around what price it is so I don't kenna rip-off? :D

Hi i am also thinkin of gettin the canon ixus 40. i went to chk out the price at Bestcam at Funan yesterday, they quote mi $610,sam package.
