Hi
just wanna post a note about being careful from buying camera equipment.
some shops will quote you a low price, but will instead swap out the original battery and replace it with a third party one, or sell you a low price but insist that the charger is a separate accessory and you got to pay for it. of course the combined price of the charger plus original package is a higher price.
for free gifts, they could claim to be able to give you on the spot, but may not actually give you the free gift of the same brand that the original manufacturer might promise, for example, swapping a no brand CF card in place of the original Canon given one (which might be a Lexar).
when you find out (usually it's too late) and return to the shop, they will say they have never seen you before.
Definitely no reputable shop i know of will make claims to your portion of the warranty card. I recently helped a fren acquire a Canon ixus 40 from a shop i know and trust, the shop was able to give the free gifts on the spot (i checked the brand) and the shop did not keep my fren's portion of the warranty card, nor did they make any dubious claims to it.
this is not to say, of course that i am implying there is any foul practice with the case mentioned above in this thread. just that it is an unusual practice which i have never experienced.....
there are various tactics to entice you to buy from them, and usually unknowing customers will be enticed by the low price, not realising they are subtly being cheated. Tourists are usually the victims.
I would be very wary if i am quoted an unusually low price. Just be careful!
Shops which I personally feel are reputable and trustworthy are:
John 3:16 at Funan
Cathay Photo at Peninsula or Marina Square
MS Color at AMK
Alan Photo at SimLim Square
Remember, this is entirely a
PERSONAL opinion. Take it or leave it
The Ixus 40 is a good camera. I would have gotten one myself as a pocketable camera if i were not so enamoured with my other "small and portable" film camera
