Hi all,

Thanks to all the kind suggestions I've been receiving here, I managed to purchase some MP black chrome parts from DAG to modify my M6 or M7 to a classic look.

I've got the:
1. Film advance lever
2. Frame selector lever
3. Rewind release lever
4. Black Leica Logo... woohoo!

Didn't think a lens mount release button was necessary as I worry it may be too major a mod job.

Can anyone recommend a good workshop for a task like that?

Schmidt will probably throw me out of their place for doing up an imitation Ala Carte.

Thanks.

Why didn't you let DAG do it, since you bought the parts from DAG?

Nope.

Didn't want to send the camera all the way to USA.

I think you should've just let DAG handle it. Even if you sent it to Schmidt, chances are it'd be sent to Germany for the refit. I'm not sure if I'd trust any of the local fix-it shops to handle the change without messing up other bits.

Maybe you should've offered to buy your friend's dropped MP for the parts instead. It's chrome if I remember correctly ;)

Ha, but if you remember as well, none of his control levers received damage from the fall! :bsmilie:

Good luck, I'd be interested to know what the outcome of your refit is. What I can suggest is that you keep the parts for now, use the camera for a year or two, then send it for a CLA then and get the new parts fitted on then. Packing it for international shipping is not as bad as you may think. Just send it in the original box, packed into a larger box lined with bubble wrap and foam bits, you'd be alright. I highly recommend DAG, they really do an excellent job.

I suppose I won't rush into it straight away. But will keep all interested parties updated.

Hahaha may make or break huh?

Just use EMS courier! Safe as your mother carrying you! No need to insure, but can off course.......I always sent very expensive items by it, no problem....even using registered Airmail......depends on the countries where you sent it to: Egypt, Italy, Indonesia are notorious......
