Hey!

I have been reading threads connected to Oly all-day-long now and I think I am about to get one, but still have two questions.

1. Which kit (pancake or 14-42) would you suggest me? I will use it mainly for shooting buildings(sightseeing), family reunions (i'd say party, but that can be missunderstood). And may I ask why?

2. In one or two replies i've read that Lumix lens on Pen AF little faster than Zuiko? Which one? Cause the Zuiko cost as half as Vario lenses as I have seen here in Europe :(

I've seen you got a very cool pen community here so I said to myself: this guys are enough experienced with Pen that they will certainly know what will be appropriate for me, kinda newbie guy.

Thanks guys!
Btw, @surfs, nice cover ;)

Get a Pancake lens kit, then seek the Panasonic 7-14mm lens. That should meet your needs.

1) i would suggest u go for the ZOOM LENS KIT (not pancake). I am not assuming u wanted the dual lens kit, althou i think it will solve ur problem. Flexiblity is the reason. The zoom should cover a useful range u wanted, it's both wider and longer compared to pancake in terms of focal range. If u get the pancake, u're stuck, you lose the convenience. I compared the sharpness of both lens, i find the pancake a little sharper, not sharp that i wanna replace it with my zoom lens. I don't grow up using primes, so as much as possible, i prefer zooms. This is just my personal opinion, others could differ.

2) You're talking about those lenses that came with the Panasonic GF-1? They are not officially released in Singapore yet. Only a handful of us here had the chance to try them out in an event.

Hey, listen to this.

I just notice vast cost difference. Vario 7-14mm costs 1100$ on amazon.com. In Europe, Slovenia it costs much more than 1000 € (1500$). That just isnt a good calculation.

Any other price/performance lens? I think high grade lens would do the job just great. What about 11-22mm from Oly. Better than 14-42 at wide?
I also read coulpe reviews of Olympus 8mm f3.5 Fisheye and I got a great feeling about it. What do you think?

Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it.

E-1 has been out of stock for years...

You mean E-P1?? It is also out of stock. Next shipment in 3-4 weeks confirmed. Place pre-order with your fav camera retailers like MS Color, CP, etc.

Opps my bad... E-Pen-1 haha

Anyway, after some calls, finally found a silver dual lens kit.

Edit to add:

Just got the silver dual lens kit from Parisilk. They mentioned that if I join E-club online then I can get a free battery right? Can anyone verify that?

Thanks!

You need to bring your receipt. Maybe better call them and ask what else to bring.

There's also the budget 9-18mm. Half the price of Pana's 7-14mm but you do need the adapter.

Just wondering, for 11-22mm, wouldn't it be more versatile to get the 12-60mm?

Problem with m43 system is the limited m43 lens selection at the moment.

The 12-60mm is very interesting ...

Well yes, I was wondering about 12-60 as well. Most because I have seen in a neighbour thread that 12-60 lens is just great (thank you microcosm and headfonz for review). But then again, I am getting PEN with 14-42, so that area I have got quite covered for now.

By the way, the Europe warehouse for olympus doesnt have white PENs on stock, so I gotta w8 for 3 weeks, geez.

I will probably go for 9-18mm or 8mm fisheye, which is said to be a great lens.

..but need to spray it yourself...original is like that :D

So this flash will work on EP-1? Looks not bad haha

Considering me being mostly a P&S person, would someone share with me why FL-14 could be a bad choice for E-P1?

A. cannot bounce the flash
B. unreliable flash output
C. expensive, considering other options are just abit more for alot more functions

Which flash would you recommend?

Didn't know about B until I visited this forum but that's exactly the same thing on my mind when I was offered the flash at a discounted price of almost S$200. I thought -- crazy.. it's GN is only 14m -- not that much better than a pop-up flash. I'd rather get a FL36R at S$300.

FL36R is a good choice, however it might cause an 'unbalanced' situation due to the size of the flash.

about the $200 for the FL-14 is a good price, considering i was offered at $250 in july..

Was quoted $250 for the FL-14 at Parisilk on Saturday.

Can other third-party flashes be used?
