Isn't Nex5/3 a good low light camera and good specs, but so many ppl selling?

nothing wrong with selling it.

just look at Canon 5D Mk2, also alot of people selling it.:sweatsm:

plenty of ppl sell also meant plenty of ppl bought them ! just that you can't count how many happily keeping their NEX

We can't just judge by the amount of trading to draw a conclusion. You will see people selling their few mths old BMW and Merc. as well.

I believed many out there purchase things which they themselves are unsure of. So adopt the atitude of try it out and if not suitable, then sell it (nothing wrong with that, good for economy).

Not reading enough review or ignorant could be the reason for trading off. Some cam adjustment are done thru menu instead of one touch button (I think NEX is one of them, I could be wrong). Hence its important to spend time to read reviews for a wiser purchase.

I bought a 2nd hand LX3 when so many people are selling for upgrading to LX5 and it served me well so far. No regrets. Knowing what one's need is equally impt.

Some commented the pic posted is not sharp. It could be due to web compression. Any camera, incld a 6MP P&S is capable of producing a sharp 8R pic (with reasonable sharpening if need be). I observed many would pass judgement on how sharp a camera is by merely basing on web posting. That should not be a criterion to gauge.

Those were the days where an actual plane has to be built to see whether it can fly. Now, whether it can fly is not the real issue. Computer takes over the design role and the real deal is about fuel economy. On the same token, a picture actually goes beyond more than mere sharpness. I'm not sure about you but to me, sharpness is the simplest thing to achieve given today's sensor and AF technology.

In conclusion, yes, I like to have the NEX at $50. Sorry for grandma's story. Today a little free.

Aiyoo. After about f/16, diffraction sets in. It's not true that smaller aperture always = sharper pic.

Try the same shot with f/11

I tested my GH-1 sweet spot is between f8 to f11 and LX3 is f4. So for max. sharpness, I stick to f8 for my GH-1 case. Yes, same goes with any other reputable lens as well that the smallest aperture is NEVER the sharpest due to diffraction. I read reviews that the newer lens sweet spot are only about 2 to 3 stops away from the widest aperture.

You can always do a simple test on your own to verify the sweet spot for your particular lens.

guys,
thanks for reply.
in fact I'm thinking to get another cam for low light shots, looks at LX5 or NEX5/3, just too surprised Nex sellers are so many.
A55 ? I'll check that out, but if it's a dslr size, is out of what I need. I need something smaller, but allows me to take reasonably good handheld low light shots.

:)

The A55 is definitely SLR size. The nex footprint is small with the 16mm pancake lens but not small with the 18-55mm. If you feel that you want something pocketable with a bit of reach, go for the LX5.

Glad to hear you are satisfied with your LX3 and more importantly your decision making.
I've been struggling to choose LX3/LX5 & Nex 3/5.

:(

LX-5 is not interchangeable lens. if you like to upgrade and modify lens, you'll always can't get enough. why not go with NX100 (Samsung) instead for comparison

I'm really tempted to go for LX3/5, but understand the sensor for Nex3/5 is much bigger, thus Nex 3/5 has to have better pictures (true/false?)

Nevertheless, I tried to read up more and ask more, so that wont have to regret choosing one and then the other. me no rich kid lah !!!

that's a right way to buy camera. I spent 1 year ++ to research and browse (and collect $ too :sweatsm: ) before I decided to buy NEX-5 (a second hand one, with lots of accessories, bought from this forum).

Some said, photography is not for the cheapos. Though I hv limited budget too, better to spend more times to save money and buy the gear that really2 suits you.

Good luck bro!

If you want to be discreet and care free type and prefer pocketable and IQ is not of primary concern, then LX. But I can tell you LX is really not bad. Nex is definitely much better than LX in lower light condition but much bulkier. Nex is using APS sensor and should able to deliver good IQ. If you are taking general photo in most daylight condition but little in twilight, then again LX could fit the bill. If you are concerned about even the slightest noise, then Nex is more suited. Having said that, bear in mind there are good denoising program that may compliment your disadvantage in using smaller sensor camera.

Every camera serve to a certain purpose and you must be the one to decide. Good luck

Popular camera models always got a lot of pple buying and selling cos there are simply more units in "circulation".

As long as you like the camera in your hands, shouldn't bother whether pple are selling or not cos there 1001 reasons for selling a camera.

A good camera is just a tool, much also depends on the person standing behind it.

the camera that you are looking for is not yet manufactured. please wait for another 1-2 years. :sticktong

I just gotten my nex last wkend. Trust me, you will be amazed by the low light photo, especially when you are coming from a PnS.

I did a lot of reading up, going through reviews and video, and forums before I make the decision to get nex. Of course, some of these materials may have their own agenda. But, when 99.99% of the materials give nex a very favorable overall marks(especially for a non-C&N cam), then I believe it is a damn good cam . And it is.

Though A55 also got top marks, I put more weights on size. And the kit lens, if compare apple to apple, it is better than all those entry-lvl DSLR I seen and touch, haha. Solid metal feel. And the look of the nex, it is just unique and special. A55 looks quite standard to me though.

Advice, get the nex. Wait for SLT technology to mature. Then get the A77 when you are ready for serious photography business.

NEX system is for ppl who wants a better cam den P & S but not the bulk of DSLR.
It's a sys in middle grd. Some say it's closer to P & S den DSLR. To me, it doesnt matter.

When i wan to buy a new cam, my decision factor was
1) Good Cam, quality match-able to entry level DSLR
2) Light

I wanted to go into Photography as Hobby but worries it's not suitable for me...
thus, i wan a cam that i can use and carry ard easily.
finally, i bought nex.

Love the size and quality. Ideal for traveling with Family or when u wanna shoot light.
NEX is definitely not a DSLR replacement but it complement it well.

Due to NEX, i will be staying with Sony and aiming for A700 replacement, so both cam can share a common pool of lens.

Be it photography or other hobby, u need to knw wat u wan or dun wan to decide wat to buy.

Exactly same as what's in my mind for targeting NEX.

I had seen many nice shots taken with NEX5 but seldom see anyone post up shutter pic.
