it has the musical icon and on af it beeps... but when i switch to mf it does not beep... is it bcoz i have my macro converter on ? or my cam is faulty? coz i just got it only ?

It will not beep with manual focus on. There is nothing wrong with your camera.

This is an interesting question. Traditionally I've needed to use ND graduate filters when dealing with landscapes to even out the exposure between the sky and the foreground. Because the S5 can hold detail so well in the highlights, does that negate the need for an ND grad, and rely instead on merging two edits of a single frame with PS into a HDR?

Not necessary.

For me, a CPL filter works better (I use a Hoya Pro1 Digital). I do have both ND2 and 4 filters, but I bought them mainly for my previous Nikon D100.

The 'beep' sound is turned off by default.

You can turn it on by SETUP > SYSTEM > BEEP > [HIGH]/[LOW].

A music note icon will appear on the camera's control panel.

For me, I have it remains [OFF] as the 'beep' sound is very annoying especially when shooting on streets.

edit : saw the previous msg thanks hennesy and photobum !!
