Probably just needs some firmware tweaks/finetunes for the lens, or even the E-P1

Hows the bokeh effect of the EP-1 compared to a normal prime lens like 50mm 1.8 ?

Flash ? Nice to have, but I never used the one on my dslr, always used an outboard flash. YMMV. Even the new EUR 4.5k+ Leica M9 has no flash :) (incredible how they have full frame in a small package).
.

The M9 is a rangefinder mah...

Probably better than the bokeh effect of a D300 compared to a normal prime lens like 17mm 2.8... but don't take my word for it.

In my case, it already has replaced my e620. As a hobbyist photographer this really fits my needs - i know it isn't a perfect camera but what is really?

I sold my Nikon D40 for E-P1. Main reason is I wanted something smaller, easier to carry around. My 14 year-old daughter thinks that the D40 produce better pictures .. but we both have not learnt how to use the E-P1 yet.

EP-1 as replacement of DSLR? Not just yet, until one day Oly or Panny can rival to their rangefinder counterpart like Leica M9 bodies, coupled with Leica-like lenses supremacy at a fraction of the price.

I sold my 30D DSLR + L lens just to buy an ep1. Yes, i wanted reasonable quality pics + light weight. Now, I bring ep1 to almost any occasion I went. A lot depends on what u actually want. I know many ppl jus wanna "exhibit" their "pro" capability by carrying dslr around. In my case, I am after a compact which delivers pic as good as possible. The ep1 is good, to the extend I went to get a Leica summicron 50 to "complement" it ;p

 The very reason why none of the DSLR was "good enough" for me. I'm not a pro and am bulky enough.

My take is that the EP-1 is not good enough to be a DSLR replacement for me.

Firstly, IQ good, but not that good. Even E620 got better IQ, I feel.
Secondly, it is fast, but not that fast enough in terms of shooting ability.
Third, AF is not as good as the E3. I guess it is obvious.
Fourth, cannot make it in low light portraits - too noisy. But good enough for night city shots though.

BUT ---- if because of its size and its ease of use, u end up carrying it around more and taking more photos, it might turn out to be a better camera for more people because you will have more good photos.

I guess you win some, you lose some, can't have the best of both world :D

Agree fully. That's why it's important to know what you want to take and what you are willing to give. Win what you want and lose what you don't want.

Also,if no choice but have to take what you don't want, just work around it :bsmilie:

Somehow if they can make a pen RF to compete with leica, I would be a happy man.
The larger-than-picture viewfinder of RF is something I will miss dearly(leica's too expensive).

The E-P1 is a great camera, and just like any piece of equipment, one needs to know its strengths and limitations. Since I got it, it has more or less replaced my DSLR, but what I found more interesting is that the PEN has changed my approach to taking photos. I would say that it has slowed me down, made me more deliberate and given me a more 'fun' experience overall.

I use only 3 party manual lenses, which work great with the PEN. The LCD may not be the brightest, esp in daylight, but one learns what works and what does not. I am taking more, much more photos than I used to with the huge DSLR and heavy Zooms!

Hey guys, I am quite interested in the E-P1. Just want to check what is the current price for the dual lens kit? Is it $1.5k+?

I think that's about the average price, I saw some at Challenger Funan. If they have it, then many others would probably have it too. Maybe Parisilk or MS will give slightly better prices, being neighborhood shops.

Thanks bro! So $1.5+ is a good price for the E-P1 twin lens kit. Do u recommend me to get the twin lens kit or I should just get E-P1 with 14-42? Coz I read several threads commenting that the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 is better than the Oly 17mm f2.8?

My main usage for the E-P1 will be walkabout shooting and shooting portraits of wife and family.

Bro just want to check whether the latest firmware update for the E-P1 got improves it's autofocus performance?

Yes, not bad. Before upgrade, it looks like it was "faulty". GF1 is faster, and using Panasonic lenses on E-P1 is also faster. 20mm not as fast as other Pana lenses though. Greatest asset of E-P1 is built-in IS, IMHO.
