who knows at photokina Nikon will launch D80 replacement with 16-85VR as kit? Then you will have another headache ;p and you end up not buying a camera. In my point of view, buy what you need or just slightly above your needs. you can forget the idea of buying a camera that may be future proof. A new camera will be released very quickly and you will drool for it, even before you use all the features/capabilities of your current camera.
Also, if you are doing some paid photography work, for that 'pro look' point of view, is it better to show ur gear to your client with D300 but tamron lens, or D70/D80 with nikon prime/f.28 lens?
