that's why i din buy LX3... no zoom is a major turn off for me.. ;)

Of course you don't get the LX3 for the zoom, obviously.

You get it for the bright lens, wide angle and RAW capabilities.

ok la... i shall bear with it for a while and wait for review from those who went for hands on session..

Well, at the present moment, I've this thought about purchasing GF1 if you really want/expecting a slightly to better ISO-noise, able to change/use your desired lenses for your photographic needs/requirements and $M$ is not a concern at this point of time. YES:thumbsup:, Go For It, I'd say...yah...why not...;)

The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the center part of the CCD to extend 2.5x optical zoom ratio (35mm equivalent: 60mm) to powerful 4.5x zoom (35mm equivalent: 108mm) at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 17.9x (35mm equivalent: 430mm).

Btw, study/learn more about the camera you gonna purchase will certainly benefits you better...

So, that means the focal-range of LX3 is 24mmf/2.0-to-108mmf/2.8:bigeyes:Plus LEICA-Optics and 1.63"sensor at this Great-Price-Pointright...hahaha??

Anyway, there's this Extra-Optical-Zoom Feature on the GF1 too(pls refer to their website for more Detailed-Info on EZ=) )

Btw, Decision Decision Decision again....heehee:cool:

i got like 6 friends and they never regretted buy Lx3. Neither do i. Never! Its awesome!

Yeh no regrets getting the LX3. Even in the face of competitions currently.

Don't just compare specs blindly.
Buy the camera that produces the photos that you like and you will never regret the purchase.
Sometimes its the "feeling", just like choosing girlfriends, you don't compare vital stats right? you gotta look at the personality, chemistry, etc.
I see some forummers here hesitating to pay for an ex-stock camera and holding out for an 'out of stock & god knows when it will be in stock' shop elsewhere that quotes at $10 cheaper or one free gift more. :dunno: Well, if you can afford a close to $700 camera, whats another $10 for that feeling of instant gratification that is priceless?

can always manual zoom .. use own legs .. kekeke

okie lah.. just like no one expects 10x optical zoom to be so small factor like F70EXR ;) more innovative engineering designs please

what a fanboy remark .. anyone with a brain will just ignore this ..

I want to get a lx 3 too.... my friend got hers at $550. but without any accessories i think..

wow where did she get her LX3 from ?? Pls share. Thanks

$550? Could it be 2nd hand? =)

Here's the link for the LX3 firmware update V2.0

http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/LX3/index.html

28th September 2009 : A new firmware version is now announced for Panasonic’s premium manual compact camera, DMC-LX3. Firmware version 2.0 supports several new functions and improves various performance factors to elevate shooting convenience and fun. The firmware also rectifies several minor issues to enhance operation.

The adoption of new algorithms makes it possible to speed up the AF time by approx.20% to 0.50 sec at wide-end. In addition, a 1:1 aspect ratio recording mode is added as a shooting option in addition to the conventional 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9.

A white balance bracket shot is also now available. The new scene mode High Dynamic is newly incorporated in the scene mode, which helps to capture a scene with moderate exposure even though the scene contains both bright and dark areas together. You can select either of 3 options, Standard, Art, or B/W, depending on the desired effect and personal taste to make the photo look natural to artistic. The white balance adjustment performance is greatly improved especially under fluorescent lights, daytime sunlight and low light.

As well as those mentioned above, the new firmware incorporates attractive advancements for enthusiastic photographers. The exposure compensation range as well as its bracket setting is widened. The fixed composition guidelines are now movable to the intended position with the control of cursor or joystick for free framing. Over exposed parts of the picture are shown not only in the preview but also in playback mode. The lens position of zooming and manual focusing is memorized and will resume at this position.

The photographer’s name can be embedded to the EXIF information of the picture and it can be confirmed via the updated PHOTOfunSTUDIO ver.2.1.

Panasonic invites all users of DMC-LX3 to apply the updated firmware.

Just got my LX3. One hell of a camera, especially considering the size! Pic quality very good... even in low light. It has all the manual functions. I'm very pleased with my LX3. Definitely worth it! It's the best P&S imo. But thats just me

i prefer to see it not as a p&s, given the amount of function it has, maybe a compact is a better term for it.

Haha compact sounds even better. That's what dpreview calls it anyway. I love my LX3. Been playing with it non stop since I bought it. Must've charged the battery 10 times already ;p
