The new AFS 18-35 G ED is actually an awesome lens, renders extremely clean and is lightweight.
I second that. Amazingly light and sharp. Its going for a very good price too. Only issue is not wide enough. 12mm crop-equivalent

Huh??? not wide enough? 18mm on Full frame is very wide...
Why use a crop factor to compare with full frame? distortion control is different from 12mm to 18mm...

I think he meant 12mm on APS-C corresponds to 18mm on 135 full-frame. For me 18mm is wide especially with this lens coz it's a fantastic walk-around and travel compromise. It goes up to 35mm, is light, moisture sealed and sharp even in the corners. I can't say that about the other options.
Definitely good for walkabout for travels. The ability to go 35 is useful for environmental portraits and street photography. But the 14mm that 14-24 offers is so appealing. But the cost..... Haha
Had the first gen of 18-35.
Downsides were
- sharpness
- barrel distortion.
18mm however, is wide, but 14mm is more delicious![]()
The old gen 18-35mm is pretty bad, should try to avoid it at all costs. Though I never used it myself coz the test data was already horrifying.
Since Im so cheepo, I'll get NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED and save the rest for something else.
You can even slide in colkin filter.
I too will look at Tokina 17-35mm F4 lens.
KenRockWell - 'This Tokina 17-35mm f/4 is as sharp as Nikon's professional 17-35mm f/2.8 AF-S'
Ken Rockwell is a fan of what ever brand gives him cameras....
Are you sure ? I remembered KRW could give review of the hottest new product before everyone else did.

Yes, because some of his so called reviews are based on press releases and data sheets only.
