SHOW u mine when I get someone to take photo of it... totally black 300D (except for buttons)

thi gaffared thing is sooo stupid... why taped up your camera like a mummified body. u buy a new camera ... so just go out and use it in its origin state to enjoy and touch its naked surface.

it is like the driver of a 3-year old car who drives around with the seats plastic wrapping in tact because he is afraid of getting dirty on the seats.

Oh, I only tape where I think is more likely to submit to wear & tear. I like the sliver of 300D.

Frankly, comments like these reflect what kind of person you are :bsmilie:

Well, the Kaisu photographers who gaffered their equipment will find themselves being able to sell their gear that's in like-new condition.

I'm sure most folks are not that vain to mind covering their cam with gaffer for whatever cosmetic or non-cosmetic reasons, unless you use your Rolex like you use your cam, perhaps you might consider getting a roll or so :D

In fact, they're doing all you second-hand buyers a favour, and of course seller can ask for a higher price.

And when u bump ur camera against a rough surface, dun come in here to complain abt ur camera being scratched cos both of u wun deserve any ounce of sympathy, but for both of ur comments, u'll earn tons of flames in return.

Come to think of it, even if ur darling investment gets scratched u probably wun even think of complaining here since both of u made such comments. ;)

Looks nice! But this gaffer tape thing, how long do u have to change it before the sticky stuff gets onto the body? Once every month? Once every 3mths? 1/2yr? 1yr? One off thing?

The plastic thing seems to be coming off slowly but steadily. I got a feeling the plastic coating on the grip of my 300D will juz flake off in a year's time.

Yo Canturn, u still doing MO for the gaffer tape? ;)

Yes am doing MO, look here

Just removed gaffer from my gitzo tripod after using it in mangrove swamp. Gaffer has been on for 2 years, and no signs of residue.

The thing is, the surface you're applying the gaffer has to be free from oil, else it will get transfered to the surface.

I dun put gaffer tape on my M6 body at all. So what if it wears? It is just a tool.
For those whom taped their DSLR and expect to get a good resale value can forget about it. DSLR and all IT related stuff does not hold their value at all. Sorry to say that, it is sad but true. Just look at ppl are letting go off their Nikon D1 at $2000, how much is the launch price of D1? They are bound to lose alot of money.

Er, I do tape up the M6 for very obvious reasons, esp when I travel.

Fact is, these M series stuffs sell very well over ebay, esp when you photos shows that item is cosmetically in good shape (no scratches, dings).

Yes, I know Leica M-series hold their value well and it is built to last almost forever. So I am not intending to sell it, so I really heck care about the condition of it.
If you use your camera so carefully and afraid here scratches there scratches, the camera itself become full of burden to the photographer.
Why bother so much, just continue shooting.
I know some fellows that bought a Nikon F5, just because his F5 got some little scratches, he sold it and bought a new one! Wondering this kind of person is playing with camera or what?!

The camera is a tool...

Don't need to pamper it so much, but also need to care about it somewhat...

I think a lot of people misunderstand the purpose of gaffer... it's not to have high resale value, it's just for people who tend to be careless or shoot events often to be unable to properly care for the equipment with minor knocks or scratches and/or sweaty/wet hands when handling it.

It's common for people (esp SGeans) to think otherwise no matter what I say, so I shall let it be, and yes I do gaffer my F80.

i will gaffer
from bags, tripods, bodies, lenses and flashes
to suffer ridicule and sneer
and to deny myself the enjoyment of my tools
so as to preserve the condition for the next buyer of my equipment.

Well, perhaps we do hold different views.

I dun think I'll be gaffering my cam up simply to make it scratch free so that it'll carry a higher resale value.

To some, the camera is a tool to be used, used liao sick of it den sell. For me, stuff dat captures memories is not something to be sold. High sentimental value. Come the day when my 300D dies on me, the mirror cracks, the LCD goes bonkers, all the buttons doesn't work and Canon does not have any spare parts to repair it at a reasonable cost....

I'll still keep it. ;)

It not only protects against scratches BUT also a confortable feel & grip.

YUP! Took me 4 nights, slowly do a bit a bit

Kudos on your patience, gryphon, but it just looks a bit too mummified for my taste (IMHO, of course). I'd probably go the same route as evq, only gaffer the high-wear areas.

Ewww ... but thanks for posting the pics, now I know what *not* to do :bsmilie:

/me put flame suit on, my spider-sense warns me that bak-zhang king is near  ;)

/me bows down to gryphon for his meticulous mummification process

You guys never fail to amaze me, LOL!
