Is it every Canon user (pro, hobbyist ) want to own a white L lens?

throughout the years of acquiring this hobby, I have learnt to buy only stuff that I need. I used to have > 6 lenses but downsized to only 3 most used lens. It is always a relief to see all 3 of my lenses have equal usage (according to my Adobe Bridge statistics)...

Compare to a few years back my 135L has only 20 shots when I have owned it for 2 years...

original thread title not specific, edited.

i'm not...its too obvious....

I would say yes and no.

Yes - for those who really need it & know how to use it.
Yes - for those who have no idea about the power of L lens except for the red ring which would likely make the owner itself feel more 'pro'
No - for those who do not need to power of L lens yet.
No - for those who do not have the budget
No - for those who are satisfied with their current gear or 2rd party lens.

I totally agree with you. I have bought a lot of lens before and sold off a lot of lens away too. But I have learnt to know what lens I use commonly, from there I have only 5 lens currently. 3 L zooms and 2 non L primes that’s all I need for now as a hobbyist. Oh ya, as for white lens I love my 70-200 f4L IS USM. J

No, it is those who have to compensate for other things. :bsmilie:

Jokes aside, definitely not everyone needs a white L lens..?

For hobbyist, it depends on the individual. In my case, not true. I buy what I need and want to afford, not whether it is a whilte lens or has red ring or not. The fact that many hobbyist owns L lenses are because of the perceived need to own the best lenses (and to some, for bragging rights and egos) and simply because they can afford it. Different individuals have different mentality over how much they are willing to spend their money on hobbies - no right or wrong.

For me its either L lens or no lens... Photographic opportunities only come once and for a few seconds, and thus i want to have the best equip on hand to capture it... Carpe diem!

No. In fact, i like small lenses.

No, but certain lenses of particular focal length ranges and maximum aperture sizes are only offered in white with a red ring. So if you need those focal length ranges and maximum aperture sizes, you will have to get them.

For me, I used my 15-85mm for a number of months and found that it is too short for many occasions. So I bought the 70-200mm f/4L IS (one of the smallest white lenses) to complement my existing setup.

Not in every case, we need L lenses. For example, if we travel with 3 L lenses, there is not much time to enjoy the trip.

Sad, no more L lenses for me to buy. :( Canon not coming out with new ones.....

Not true lah, I owned 4 L lens but none are white..
All white L lens are bulky and heavy, with the exception of the 70-200f4L, I guess.. not good for someone with bad back.. haha

I dont think so.
Wisely, we must buy what we need and not for a "fashion".

Those who love to shoot wide angle, might not even buy a "white" lens :)

Only own one "L" lens but that is the black 100mm macro. The next "L" eyeing on is the 8-15 fisheye - still black. Nope, don't see any white "L" in my horizon at all...

black or white, it's based on what you need. nxt up for me is the 70-200 is usm ii. heavy but IQ, sharpness, color and the 2.8 is pretty darn useful in events and weddings.

Buy only what you need and you will not regret. (:
