Is it Difficult to Shoot with 50mm F1.8?

looking at both 100% crops (focus was on the centre right, border of where the red/orange meet), the f1.8 shows much less detail than the f2.8 (without any post processing), while also giving a rather shallow depth of field (not the entire lobster was in focus). Instead, the f2.8 show greater detail and managed to get a better (in this case) DOF for the subject.

Anyway, just did some shots of the moon with my 50mm F1.8, not wide open of course.... F5. Did pretty alright, so it's not likely my AF prob.

The only problem is, he never say the lobster is how far away...

If it's like 0.5m away, f1.8 is actually pretty sharp...

haha actually i cant really remember how far the lobster was, but the picture wasnt cropped, but for a rough guide i placed him on the middle of my bed and shot from the width edge (should be <1m)

50mm on a 1.6x crop gives you the exect "magnification" (dunno issit the correct word to use) your eye sees things, you can try by looking through the VF with your right eye and opening both eyes, you will find the images from both eyes match in terms of "size" - so the picture actually shows how near with respect to the human eye i was to the lobster

oh was it of the partial eclipse? i have some shots of that but i'll need some council on it =D

if i get 100mm macro usm do i still need a 50mm with me lol
