is b + W filter good?

I have been using Hoya filters for 30+ years and I never had this problem. Another issue about Hoya filters being hard to clean..... Not me. I use a Lenspen and problem solved. If it gets too dirty to clean, I just replace it with a new one. Unlike B+W filters, I don't feel my bank account drained.

Image quality between both brands of filter.... I am a 'tan chiak' photographer and I can't tell their differences. Neither can my clients.
Well, as I see it, "tanchiak" photog use their gear much more intensively than amateurs. I reckon that they use like 10times more than amateurs.

So, if Hoya is good enough for them, do amateurs "need" B+W?

Most of the time, filters are mean for protection, so, should be viewed as a disposable item, to be replaced when required.

That's absolutely right. Most of the 'tan chiak' photographers I know, or have the privilege to work with in the past, use Hoya or some other inexpensive optical filters. Whenever their Hoya filter needs replacement, they just replace a new one and it will probably lasts them for another year or so.

Some of them don't even bother to buy the so-called 'For Digital' filters. At least I buy them as I feel the multicoating is better.

The filters last a year or so in extensive daily use for the Pros. Now, for us amateur, it could readily last us a good 10years, if you dun damage it that badly.

Hoya HMC for me.

I have a Nikon NC on the front of a Canon lens. Will I burn in camera-hell? :bsmilie:
:bsmilie: Almost fell off my chair with that one. You're funny!
But seriously, with all this uncertainty about B&Ws being made by whom, and where, for which market, I am tempted to try Nikon CPL filters now! Like you I use Canon lenses. May the camera gods have mercy!

Just last night, I noticed my B+W 52mm UV Filter cracks without any reason.
I put it in the drybox attached to my lens. It's only 3months old bought together with the lens in CP.
Is there a way that I can have it replaced?
I think it doesn't worth buying expensive filter only to crack without any reason. Tsk Tsk!
Can anyone recommend other filter brands?

Printing on the side is alu, printing in middle is brass. I think.

The print is on the side. So I guess it aluminum.
Is it common for aluminum B+W to crack?
I read from a thread also that CP only sells brass version, but I also bought mine in CP.
That filter also has a "Made in Germany" label...

All B+W filters are made in Germany. To me the brass one is better.

Can anyone recommend a brand of UV Filter that is as good as B+W? So far i've only vounchers that AP would accept and they're totally out of stock of B+W because of the supplier's lack of supply(lol). Need it urgently for a week long trip after 2nd week september and not gonna risk my L without one

PS: Oh, i've been waiting for a week plus already.
