Hi,

I have a Canon 40D with a 24 - 105 F4 L IS USM / 70 - 200 F4 L IS USM lens. With this setup what filters would I need to start experimenting with IR / UV Photography.

Thanks.

just a r72 filter

i am not sure how sensitive the canon d40 is to ir though.

not many people here do uv photography.

And a sturdy tripod....... unless you can really really stay still for about 30 seconds.

If you're gonna be using your D40 (or did you mean 40D? Sorry, I don't know Canon nomenclature.) SOLELY for IR purposes, then you'll need a screwdriver, nifty hands, patience, and either a camera to document the process so you can assemble everything back, or a really good memory. Then you can start to dismantle the camera to remove the IR-cut filter. =)

Its a 40D, no I dont want to convert it to IR, just wanted to know if my current setup would be able to do it, as already suggested a Hoya R72 Filter.

Cheers ....

Haha! Then ya, you need a good sturdy tripod and the R72 filter. You might wanna research on which lenses are suitable though. Some are excellent for visible light photography, but can be super lousy at infrared. So the best glass for visible light is not necessarily the best glass for infrared. Maybe the Canon IR-shooters can help here... =)
