This is very nice.

I would like to echo iVintage's words.
I personally also find this series of IR photos from this outing very remarkable.
It is refreshing to see new IR shots from our new members in the IR forum.
I am still waiting to see a few more shots from some of the other members.. ClemC, Gapman, Tazzie21... and every one else whom I have missed out your names (apologies) and haven't posted your IR shots... hey guys, where are you photos!? ;D

This is very nice.

Thank you very muchhh SK :)
hm...yes, who took our group picture at that time ?? :D I only remember it was taken with Canon 7D camera...if I'm not mistake

Hi All, Elmo here. Firstly Thanks to all the IR senoirs here for organising this outting and guided me throught out the outting. Learnt a lot from you guys.
Well, I'm very new to IR and first time shooting IR. I was shooting with E-PL2 with a chapalang 720 filter. Dunno my photos are IR or not. To me they look like grainy black n white photos.
Encountered a few issues, hope some of the gurus here can help.
1. I noticed that all my photos are very grainy. Is that normal for using external filter?
2. With custom WB, the photos are all look like black n white. Is it dependent on filter used?
3. Is it a must to do channel swap? I tried but the result look kns. Can't get what you guys posted. Very dissapointed. I shoot in jpg and I'm not very familiar with Photoshop. Just followed the guideline as forum Stricky stated.

Elmoo, this one is very very lovely. The classic colours of a 720nm.
You are doing good. Keep playing around with your Hue and Saturation, Elmoo.

1. Graininess arises from several issues. Allow me to list just a few:
  • The ISO you used.
  • The use of JPEG rather than RAW. Of course I must clarify that several very established IR shooters here in our IR forum actually do shoot with JPEG. Just that in IR we tend to need to push our PP. So certain times, artifacts do arise.
  • Again, when we push the sliders of the colours of our IR photos a little too much, there may arise artifacts that appear as grains.

2. Once you custom WB your shots according to the foliage at the scene, the vast majority of your foliage will turn white (or whitish). And in your case, with the 720nm, you may find that the colours approximate more of a Black and White, as compared with say, an ELP filter, or a Goldie filter. But certainly no worries about that. The reason being, once your start to PP and start to do Hue and Saturation tweaking, the colours will come back.

3. Channel swap is certainly not a necessity. Although again, using your 720nm as an example, once you Channel swap then will you get blue sky which makes the environment appear a little more natural. If you study closely, you will find many shooters don't swap for some of their IR shots to attain a coppertone like appearance.

Hope that helps, Elmoo.
And it was great meeting up with you that day!
